Dragon Ball Kai is Set to Continue… but Not in Japan

This is yet another twist in the Kai saga, which saw the show conclude after only the Cell arc, a scandal that resulted in the replacement of nearly the entire score, and a natural disaster that prevented its final episode from being broadcast. And with partial foreign funding of the upcoming Dragon Ball Z movie, there is the tantalizing possibility that overseas rights-holders wanted the Buu arc badly enough to help finance it. In the absence of an official statement from any of the relevant entities, however, we can merely speculate.

The only question that remains is, why record the dialogue in Japanese if the show will not be broadcast in Japan? It seems like a great deal of trouble to go to simply to maintain consistency in home releases abroad, so perhaps the show may eventually see daylight in Japan, in one form or another. Only time will tell.

So, what is the deal with this exactly? I haven't watched any Dragon Ball in several years now, but I recently heard of this new series and it somewhat piqued my interest. First I heard it was an entirely new series following on from GT, then I heard it was a sort of re-boot of Dragon Ball Z. Then, I heard it doesn't actually exist at all; that it was just some rumour that had spread across the net, and people pushed it so far as to even chop up parts of obscure Dragon Ball (Including Z and GT) episodes and movies and pasting them back together to create "Dragon Ball Kai" episodes.

Needless to say, I'm pretty confused. But then, it might not even appeal to me at all seeing as I disliked Dragon Ball GT. I loved Dragon Ball, and Dragon Ball Z was pretty decent, but I didn't really like GT so much, and if they're any sort of indication of what to expect with Dragon Ball Kai, then I probably wouldn't be that interested. But still... I'm kinda curious.

Kai is just Z that has been remastered and cut/condensed from 291 episodes down to 98 episodes (not counting the Buu saga they left out).

They condensed it by cutting out all filler, reducing screamfests, etc... Kai is pretty much just a directors cut of Z that showcases the fights but leaves out nearly any symbol of story.

Hmm... I would like to see DBZ Kai having the proper conclusion it deserves, but not being aired in Japan? I agree, why re-record the Japanese dialogue if it's not gonna be in the Japanese brodcast? I know we have our anime 'purist's' here in the west, but come on people.
