It's come to light that, without informing the user, it installs browser plugins that are sloppily programmed - so sloppy that they could potentially allow ANYONE to take control of your computer. So, if you have Uplay, check out what plugins are installed for your browser, and if you see Uplay there, disable and/or delete them. I found it in my Firefox, but oddly enough, not in IE9
G Bass
I saw this earlier today and was surprised to see it installed in Firefox. Wonder if there's any way to delete them. If only Driver: San Francisco didn't use Uplay.

Dude888
Fortunately for me, I mostly play games on games consoles. PC gaming is great, but you don't only use your computer for gaming, you use it to work and stuff. Even if something like that could happen on consoles. Of course I'd get pissed, but I could just buy another one and I wouldn't loose my work. The issue is caused by a bad implementation or a bad application design. It's a common error and can be fixed. I don't blame the person who made it or designed the feature, but Uplay is not an application that should be mandatory to play their games. It should exist for the people who wants it, but the high-ups at ubisoft don't want to lose money, so they said that it is needed with every games. Uplay was not just implemented because they wanted their own achievement system and community thing, instead of using steam. It was made to be sure that the people who play the game were not using a pirated version and/or cheating or whatever. I'm really tired of these company, especially Ubisoft, always trying new things to prevent piracy. When, in the end, people always find another way around. I think they should go back to the way it was before: you bought the game in the store, installed it and put a cd-key. You didn't need to be always connected to the internet (coming from a guy that has a laptop, and intermittent access to internet). Yes, it is less secured that way, but it's not a pain to install the game.
G Bass
I will have to disagree with a PC being mainly for work, since that is entirely dependent on the user, but that is an argument for another topic. The thing that bothers me about Uplay and DRM like it (besides Steam since it's not too restrictive) is that only the consumers are punished. DRM is often circumvented by pirates and legit users are left using the bullshit software.
Dude888
I will have to disagree with a PC being mainly for work, since that is entirely dependent on the user, but that is an argument for another topic.I didn't mean work as work, but if you work on making drawings on your computer or you make music or whatever (I should have added "or whatever" or "and stuff" but now it's too late for an edit)The thing that bothers me about Uplay and DRM like it (besides Steam since it's not too restrictive) is that only the consumers are punished. DRM is often circumvented by pirates and legit users are left using the bullshit software.I didn't install steam for a long time because it was annoying and 3rd party-like, but I finally had to install it. They are now pretty much well-known and they would never let something like that happen. I think there is less danger for my computer if I download and play a pirated game instead of playing a ubisoft game that uses Uplay and needs to always be connected to Internet. That is not a good thing for game developper and publisher, because I want to support the developpers, but it's less of a pain to play a pirated version than paying for the game, then installing multiple bullshit softwares, then creating an account on their website... it never ends. I JUST WANT TO PLAY THE DAMN GAME! Edited July 31, 2012 by Dude888
