Megaupload Rumors?

Well I guess it's possible that it could still return, but I'm not keeping my hopes up. With such a devastating blow to the company I find it hard for them to bounce back to their former selves. Especially with the loss of confidence in their users.

Well, the article doesn't really say much that isn't already said here. Dotcom posted some tweets promising to return since SOPA, PIPA, and ACTA were all voted against. He's on bail pending extradition until August. Nothing else that really indicates a definite return, but I'm also using Google translate and my linguist skills to decipher some of the clumsy translations, haha.

If they come back, they're going to be the safest host around - you can't charge someone twice for the same crime under American law, meaning they'd have to find a new angle first.

Anyway, first we need to wait if the extradition hearing is pushed back into next year or not and then we'll see.

Megaupload once the greats file sharing host there was! Rumoured to make a possible return? Rumour yes! Likley hood is low in my opinion. Even if he doges all the charges and starts up Megaupload again it is like that he would make himself a huge target once again only for the feds to try and bring him down again from a different angle. So on that note I believe Megaupload will not come back especially with the internet going the way it is, the internet world is changing, for the better for some and for others not for the better.

Tough I really loved megaupload, even if it comes back, I doubt it will be the same, and since the rest of filesharing sites pretty much suck, I'm stuck with torrents for now and for anime, well… I think the IRC is a good alternative, is fast, you don't need a subscription and is pretty straightforward.

Super producer Swizz Beatz may not be out of the woods yet when it comes to charges stemming from his involvement with Megaupload. If you remember, Megaupload was shut down in January of this year or piracy, with four of its employees seeing jail time.

According to The Source, “authorities are currently going after Swizz Beatz after being swindled out of a charge on the count that Megaupload was outside the United States’ jurisdiction.”

Swizz is now facing a 20-page motion filed by the feds – check out the paperwork here.

According to AP, all of the Megaupload employees are now being indicted for their contribution towards Megaupload and its file sharing. Back in January, the U.S. government seized Megaupload’s domain names, $50 million in assets, and got the New Zealand police to arrest four of the site’s top employees, including its founder, Kim Dotcom.

Honestly, id on't see much of a problem. As long as:

1. They pay attention to what content is on their site

2. Have the server in a country where the rules aren't bullshit

3. They don't try to pirate material on it

ESPECIALLY #3. I think this is why they got shut down and other sites (rapidshare, mediafire, etc.) have not even been considered to be shut down.

I"m curious at what the rules will be. If they don't go all Hitler on their uploads like Mediafire did, I will honestly be really suprised.

Took it down for no reason? Explain please? Because it'd be amazing if they really were taken down for no reason and people aren't storming the capital right now with pitchforks and torches. From what I understand, violating privacy and copyright laws were the main charges, as well as laundering money. A lot of money. And also a lot of conspiracy.

engaging in a racketeering conspiracy, conspiring to commit copyright infringement, conspiring to commit money laundering and two substantive counts of criminal copyright infringement.

Link.
