(AC)
So i was wondering if anyone knows what could be causing this problem? My old laptop well i have had it for about 2-3 years has got a screen problem where the screen will go off if i have it on full brightness but not if it is on a low brightness. It started off where the screen was only flickering every so often but it would stop if i turned the brightness down, now the screen goes off if i have my laptop on full brightness but everything it still playing, for example if i am watching something i can still hear it playing when the screen goes off. hagi
maybe the ribbon for the screen is somehow damaged and that is what is giving you these problems or it could be something less problematic such as you may have a out-dated or damaged video card driver install, i would suggest updating your video card driver first and see if that solves the problem. †ballard
The inverter board for the screen could be going out, or like everyone else said it could be the graphics card. My sister recently had a similar issue like this one, and it ended up being the inverter board. Edited July 12, 2012 by ballard
abhirup
nope, i don't think its the video card issue..i think its a hardware problem with the monitor (i am guessing that coz of the flickering)

Jªvª
Honestly could be multiple things* Software Conflicting with each other (ATI Control Panel, NVidia Control Panel, Function Key Software, or any other software that could control the brightness or color of the screen)*Graphics Driver Corrupted*Screen Dimmer actually dieing*Screen Power Supply Issue (damaged part or loose)*Graphics cord to screen could be loose or damaged*Graphics Chipset/Card about to bite the dustFirst two obviously are software related and can be easily fixed, while the three after would require a replacement of the hardware soon or be refitted. And the very last one is a hit and miss, if you have a laptop gpu that can be replace; you could replace it.But if it is not like on board chipset, be good idea to save what you have and find a replacement asap. So test the software ones first, then if no luck might be time to find a replacement soon and live with the damage goods for awhile.
bezelbubba
Try typping the screen at an angle and see if you can make out any items on it. A text file or a high contrast display should work. I would point fault at the inverterr board or ccfl light. You can also run it to an external monitor, if everything displays correctly , that can rule out video card corruption. throwaway319fg
Maybe it's your battery. After 2-3 years, you might need to replace it. Or like the posts above mention; video card/ display drivers might need updating. Other than that, it could be just your LCD screen. Also, if you really want to try all possible options, try system restore or a clean reboot of your computer....restoring it to factory settings. charlie22
I say its the monitor. Try calling the company repair center and get a quote over the phone. Sometimes they can even tell you whats the problem based on the symptoms of the computer.
