Going to Anime Convention in August, what should I expect?

Okay folks, I'm making plans to go to an anime convention in August, my first convention ever...and was wondering what should I expect. This is the one I'm going to

http://nom-con.net/

Any tips on what's fun to do? What should I avoid? Just to get it out of the way, I won't be cosplaying...well, maybe if someone can suggest a quick and easy costume (basically, if I have to cosplay, I don't wanna put in any effort into it. While I do enjoy looking at photos of cosplayers and respecting the effort they put into it, I don't wanna do it myself that much).

As of the time of writing, I don't know if I can go the full three days. I know I can book the one or maybe two days off work, but I doubt all three (the boss and I kinda hate each other).

1. Invite friends never go alone if you can.

2. Expect a lot of people, carry only what you need, cosply is the exception to this rule.

3. Do your best to be organized, you probably won't be able to see every thing but if your organized you should be able to see plenty.

A. First day goof off talk anime geek with others. Find out about convention schedules, when booths are open, when special rooms open up and so on. Get plans for day two.

B. Do plans.

C. If you can find all this and plan before you go do so.

4. Wash, Wash, Wash.

5. Even if there is food allowed don't do it. Its trouble some.

6. Stop at your room pariodicly as needed, don't over do it.

7. Do not invite others to your room. I've seen bad things happen.

8. Do not bring dvds or games with you, even if you really want to. You will be to busy during the day and to tired at night any way.

9. And of course HAVE FUN ^u^.

5. What do you mean if food is allowed? Can you clarify please? Do you mean don't bring my own food with me, or don't eat any food supplied at the events?.

7. I'm not gonna have a room, as I live in Dublin. I've no need to book a room, as my home is just a short bus trip away.

8. As for bringing media, I would think an anime convention would be a great place for me to stock up on anime MKVs. So I'll have to make sure to get a USB 3.0 portable hard drive before then (no way am I sitting in a corner for hours while USB 2.0 slowly copies files back and forth).

Anyway thanks for the tips!

Any tips on what's fun to do? Go into the merch hall, stock up on merch, talk to people about your soplay or theirs, or both, pose for pictures with others, take pictures, etc.. In most events there are little parties. Like in Manifest, they have an anime ball, where cosplayers get together to have a formal night in all anime ball gowns. There's also midnight opening and such.

Take as many friends as you can! Stuff is always much fun to do if you have people to accompany you.

What should I avoid? Avoid going into the large crowds of people. When I went to Manifest in Melbourne last year, the merchandise hall was PACKED. It was so hard to move in there, and my wig got knotty from all the rustling and such. Also it is harder to make your way around with a large cosplay hand-held item.
