Opinions on Windows 8?

I installed the Windows Developer Preview a month ago, just to try it out. So far, my opinions are mixed. They have improved a lot of Windows 7 features, but the new start menu takes some time getting used to. I didn't want to disable the new start menu because I wanted to see how efficient it was, using it on a daily basis. Even though I did get used to it, I still prefer the normal start menu, but I can see why it would work well on tablets and touch screens. The developer preview isn't the final product, so many things could change when the official beta comes out. In the meantime, I'll stick to using Windows 7. Has anyone else tried out the developers preview? If so, what are your opinions on it?

Here's a list of the new features.

Lol I swear loads of people already made threads about this, but anyway I think it is utter crap. But I do understand it is not finalised yet, I hope the beta would be better suited for PC users. I do love the task manager on it, it has improved a lot from the Windows 7. I only used it for about 1 hour and I haven't touched it since, still have it installed dual booting with my Windows 7. I'm gonna remove it later and install openSUSE on top of it.

Meh, I like *nix. I'm not exclusive to Linux. Although I'm pretty opinionated about how I like *nix.

I have only liked Windows versions with odd number tenth digit kernels though. Seriously.

I liked 2000/XP (NT 5.x)

Didn't like NT 4.0 Workstation

And I loved NT 3.1. I used to draw "NT 3.1" on my wall when I was a kid. I have pics somewhere....

Although when I was a kid, I had Crapple OS forced on me. Both Crapple OS classic & OSuX.

My childhood was kind of full of [x_x] <- seeing this bastard.

Hate that guy.

I have a very simple thought...

Provided I will not miss out on anything NOT using the rather "Yawn" touch screen interface, then I will be fine with whatever they put out... if I buy it will be a completely different story.... never really had a great OS upgrade before.

I get the feeling that 8 is being developed ONLY for tablets. I checked it out, it's decent but the Metro UI isnt for u if you're used to desktop icons or what not. Arguably, I want the desktop Start Menu back. They're saying that there will be a version that supports ARM so why not just keep the Metro UI there and leave the classic interface on the desktop version. That aside, everything else is better in a way, but I want to wait until the Public Beta so I can rethink my opinion.

which ever they bring out i hope it uses less ram.

Unfortunately, the RAM amount will continue to increase, rather than decrease, when it comes to Windows. Linux, on the other hand, keeps improving things more often, but they also make it work with less RAM, unlike Windows. Windows 7 and 8 both require a minimum of 1GB RAM (currently, in the case of 8).

Well ram isn't really an issue as it is just getting cheaper and cheaper, you could easily get 4gs of decent RAM for cheap.

The price depends on the type. For example, some of my computers require DDR RAM, and it costs $60 USD for one 1GB stick of it. DDR2 RAM of the same size costs about $40-50 USD. The newer RAM is cheaper, but the older RAM is not. The people concerned about RAM probably have a computer that takes the more expensive older stuff.

Ah lol you're correct about that, a few years ago I brought SO-DIMM DDR RAM and they cost 2X the price of DDR2. DDR3 these days are so cheap, wasn't it due to it being over manufactured and no one was buying it?
