Arisien
The Girl Who Leapt Through Time Just watched it and this is one of my favorites I've seen all year. Compelling time travel stories are not the easiest to execute but that was definitely the case here. I have been meaning to watch it for so long that I don't know how I never got around to it. I even inadvertently saw a dedicated amv (run makoto run) for it before this, though I only realized that during the ending scene. It was funnier than Kite or Kite Liberator, but still very much in line with them. There is even a Kite easter egg for eagle-eyed viewers! I won't spoil it if you haven't seen it. It's even goofier than Kite Liberator. It's like a dark-comedy version of Kite. Yet another assassin OVA with a female protagonist + H-scenes with her coworkers. Let me know if you've seen it @Arisien As far as I am aware, I have yet to watch Mezzo Forte. Though I do plan on watching more arms series in the future! Sorry I forgot to reply to this, been so busy with work and uni T.T

Well, I've been reading the manga since its first chapter... so I was gonna watch it anyway! But it definitely is a good watch, it's a typical shonen manga/anime with some crazy comedy and very nice action. The pacing is perfect, not too slow to lose the audience nor too fast that you can't tell what's heppening. And the opening and ending themes are SO good! I would definitely recommend this if your a fan of action and proper plot stories.

Dave55811
My most recent anime completed was Genius Party Beyond. I was watching it with some pals on a stream. Before that, we did watch Genius Party. Genius Party was alright; it was a collection of OVA's that were mostly artsy-fartsy. Because of how abstract and, possibly, avant-garde they are, Genius Party isn't for everybody.

Arisien
Eden of the East What a fantastic first episode, don't remember the last time I was so quickly invested into a story. Great setup, OP/ED, and pacing that immerses you into the wild ride. Overall, the series does have it's enjoyable moments and an ending which peeks your curiosity to watch the sequel movie for answers. Still, I can't help but feel there was lost potential in the progression of the plot from what the first few episodes were able to set up. Maybe the sequel will change my mind about that... This sounds interesting, it's some kind of anthology? Might check it out since I've been watching a lot of ovas recently, haven't had time for longer titles. Arisien
Arakawa under the bridge This was... distinctly studio shaft. The wtf humor isnt for everyone but id be lying if I said I didn't find it amusing at times. Not fond of stationary characters whose behavior seems to be primarily driven by a running gag, which is pretty common for this type of comedy. So having a bit of non-episodic story progression and development of the protagonist did make it a lot more watchable for me. Good soundtrack. Dave55811
Recently finished Ajin. I saw it with @Zemekis and others. It's 3DCG, done by the same studio that did Knights of Sidonia. I recommend Ajin. Genius Party is, pretty much, an anthology. It's a collection of short OVA's. After that, there's Genius Party Beyond, too.
Arisien
Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day Stumbled across a familiarly tagged release for this one xD. It was an emotionally bittersweet ride with a beautiful ED and interesting characters. The themes of growing up and saying goodbye have been touched on by many series, but I still think it was done rather well here.
Dave55811
Within the span of March 29th to now, I have watched My Neighbor Totoro, Grave of the Fireflies, Shikanoko Nokonoko Koshitantan, RoshiDere (Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian), Now and Then, Here and There, and Terminator Zero. Currently, I'm working on Goblin Slayer's second season; apparently there was a second season that came out and, obviously, I haven't kept on top of that. My Neighbor Totoro was actually a gift (DVD) from my mother, and Grave of the Fireflies is something I bought on DVD back in mid-April of 2005, so me watching that again marks the first time in nearly 20 years....especially with a new outlook, because I was patriotic back then, so I was a little hesitant.... Spoiler ....I mean, I'm still patriotic, but at least Grave of the Fireflies didn't have any subliminal messaging to encourage shame in American patriotism, which was a thing during the first years of the new millennium. Obviously, Grave of the Fireflies was around long before OIF happened, so maybe my worry was misplaced. Basically, I have much more of an appreciation for the movie now than I did 20 years ago. Chalk it up to getting old. That aside, I've never seen My Neighbor Totoro, and having watched it now, I see why it earns its praise. It's a fun movie, and is, arguably, Studio Ghibli's most iconic one. I mean, Totoro's right there on the company logo, you know? How could that movie not be their most iconic one? Perhaps my personal favorite so far has been Now and Then, Here and There. Evidently, people compare this anime to Grave of the Fireflies, and I think that's a false equivalency. However, like Grave of the Fireflies, NHT (or also "Ima Boku"?) does have some heavy shit. It has certainly proven to be one of the more engaging anime I've seen in a while. Terminator Zero was engaging, too, but NHT hit different. I'd love to get a physical copy of this movie, but apparently it's out of print. I haven't checked to see how much it costs online yet, but I'm sure it's a pretty penny. Terminator Zero was a curious one, because it was shown on Netflix. The animation was done by Production I.G, and I think Trigger had an involvement as well. Terminator Zero may fail a purity test in some capacity, but if you ask me, Terminator Zero is certainly more "anime" than the Castlevania animated series. As for the anime itself, I thought it was a pretty good entry for the franchise. I don't expect everybody else to agree, though. You'll know what I mean if you decide to check it out.
Arisien
Millennium Actress The film makes use of some very cool storytelling devices – definitely worth the watch. As far as Satoshi Kon films go, I preferred it to Paprika and don't know exactly where I'd put it in relation to Perfect Blue. There seems to be a good amount of similarities between his works like common themes of blurring reality and fiction, tying in to the movie industry, and the presence of female leads. Arisien
Ping Pong This has been on the backlog for the a while. One of the better sports anime I've seen, overshadowed only by a series like One Outs. Loved the character arc of the Chinese transfer student, definitely one of the highlights of this series. The story explores the world of competitive sports and the struggles of those who live in it: pursuing excellence, finding meaning, and sometimes accepting when you just aren't cut out for something. Cool OP. Scum's Wish "If one of us is feeling lonely, what's wrong with wanting the other to hold you" Scum's Wish - the series about a boy and girl with unrequited loves forming a codependent physical relationship as a means of coping with their loneliness. Or well that's what your initial impression might be before an entire love polygon topography develops, at the expense of the main relationship in my opinion. My thought's on this series are very mixed. The premise is promising, as esoteric kinds of relationships are rarely given much attention but the drama felt a little excessive at times and some of the character's actions feel out of place. ED was interesting; song for it was pretty. Edited Wednesday at 12:22 AM by Arisien
