DrumRoll
I'm looking to buy an external hardrive 1TB or bigger.Does anyone have any recommendations? Reliability is the key factor! If I lost 1TB of data I'd be so pissed:)
Koby
Pretty sure I just answered a similar thread on this a few weeks back and everyone seemed to agree on the general consensus. If you're going to get an external drive make sure it's a Western Digital. They seem to hold up better.I got 3 externals. Two are WD's I bought (1 TB and 2 TB) and the other is a Seagate (1.5 TB). My sister bought the Seagate, but I ended up with it.
RikuoAmero
Whatever you do, don't go for Seagate, their drives are shit. I have a 2TB one, and when I first bought it, it kept on making odd clicking sounds (doesn't now), and it was slow as hell. I have two Iomega 2TB drives, and I was able to play 1080p video off of them just fine, but the Seagate was just hopeless at video. Had to copy onto to the internal hard drive if I wanted to watch anything I had stored there.
DrumRoll
good to hear, I was going to go with a WD HD. my 250GB is WD and it works fine so it looks like I'll get one of those then. They're cheap as well:)
jen2sons
I run an HP external drive and Have had no problems. I have owned it for about a year and have had to take my pc back a few times as it has issues but my hard drive stayed perfect no matter what crazy the pc did.Edited to add but never trust anything to not crash. I would say anything you truly want to keep should be put on a dvd and stored away just in case. I do a new complete archive every 4 to 6 months or when I download a ton of good stuff , I will just archive that paticular stuff.
zolockit
WD is awesome for exHDDs, in my opinion/experience. Just sayin'.
