Plot and overview

The series celebrates the 25th anniversary of its original Super Dimension Fortress Macross TV series (1982~1983), and is chronologically subsequent to Macross 7 (1994~1996). This third TV series introduces Earth's latest main variable fighter, the VF-25 Messiah (メサイア)[1] and a new Warship/starship called the Macross Quarter. The show retains the signature space opera theme consistent with all series set in the Macross Universe (which intertwine musical numbers with fast-paced variable fighter combat). New episodes are aired weekly on the TBS network Fridays at 25:55. The 24+ hour clock is a common Japanese TV broadcast notation, in this case indicating 01:55am Saturday. Two separate manga adaptations have been running in Shōnen Ace and Comp Ace, since February 2008 and April 2008 respectively.[3]

The series features the 25th New Macross-class Colonial Fleet, dubbed the Macross Frontier, en route to the galactic center. This heavily-populated interstellar fleet (consisting of numerous civilian vessels and their military escorts) contains a makeup of both human occupants and their Zentradi allies. As such, many of the Macross Frontier's companion vessels appear to merge more metallic Human designs with organic Zentradi aesthetics. On the Macross timeline, the story is set in the year 2059, 47 years after the original Super Dimension Fortress Macross, 19 years after Macross Plus and 14 years after the story of Macross 7. Macross Frontier plot explores combination of action/political intrigue/space drama more than previous Macross series have in the past.

As the series begin, during a mission to an unexplored asteroid belt a reconnaissance New U.N. Spacy (N.U.N.S.) VF-171 is destroyed by extremely powerful and fast insectoid biomechanical alien mecha known as the "Vajra", (バジュラ)[2], which immediately begin their attack on the rest of the fleet. Not being able to stop the new enemy threat, the N.U.N.S. Colonial Defense Forces authorize the deployment of a Civilian Military Provider organization called S.M.S. (Special Military Services) which utilizes the new VF-25 Messiah variable fighter to destroy the alien menace.

I'm a big fan of Macross so I could'nt wait to see it. I love the new fighters, I want one...

I've seen it english sub. It's been 3 or 4 years know, I wonder if it's out in english Dub..

Yep I've seen it quit some time ago. It even has a movie out called the false songstress witch is an alternate telling. There is even a special music movie for dedicated to the music. If you like the music for the show its worth the watch.

Also if you watched Macross frontier you should watch Macross zero as well as they actually have deep tie ins.

I would hint but that would spoil it.

Unfortunately no there will never be a dub. Most of the series remains a Japanese only thing. If it were not for the internet we wouldn't even know it existed.

I loved this anime. Finally the second movie is out! Actually, it's really awesome since the plot of the movies diverges from that of the original Macross F anime, so it's fine to watch without getting bored. And of course, Sheryl's concerts are gorgeously ridiculous.

First there was robotech that spanned 85 in threes seasons. Macross or Robotech in Amarica Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross, and MOSPEADA in that order.

Macross 7 witch continues the story of the series. This one spanned 51 episodes I believe and introduced new singers and band called fire bomber.

Then there are the Robotech releses witch for no real reason kept the name robotech. Note that these animes do fall into the storys gaps here or there and are best as filler or promotional material.

Robotech the movie. This movie was ment to be a remake of an off shoot anime called Megazone 23. Unfortunitly its one of the worst anime movies in existence, even its creators won't acknowledge it's existence. If I were you I would skip this one.

Robotech the sentinals, this was to be the actual second season but was canceled only the pilot episode exists. Despite being canceled the show actually gives away important secrets that are good to know for the rest of the series.

Robotech UN Public Service Announcement, this one is a quicky segment made for the fun of it and only runs about a minute

Robotech the shadow cronicles, is a movie that takes place during and after the last episode of MOSPEADA that explains why the queen of the Invid choose to leave Earth and what happened after.

Theres a Robotech shadow chronicles 2 in the works but has been postponed.

Super Dimension Century Orguss was an obscure release that was ment to be apart of the cannon but then just didn't. But its fun to see were the show might have ended up.

There is also a lot of hidden media to the series that was created between the beginning to the end of the first series. Due to the fact that the show was so popular in the States and Japane this includes comics and mangas not released outside of there initial dates.
