So i found this little piece of information. Please read it, give your comments, or post whatever you find about it. this could be some exciting stuff. i for one, have been waiting for this development since the first time virtual reality was used in a movie....

Sony experimenting with virtual reality gaming

Company testing VR tech with "a couple of games" including an FPS

Sony is exploring ways in which virtual reality gaming could make a comeback.

Mick Hocking, senior director at Sony Worldwide Studios, told Develop the firm is testing virtual reality technology with a number of gaming projects, including a first person shooter.

"We've got a new head mounted display [in development] that we showed at Consumer Electronics Show," he said. "At the moment it's just a head-mounted display; the head isn't being tracked - but that's something we're doing R&D on.

"I have to say, what we've done in the R&D projects has just been fantastic," he added. "We're working with a couple of games at Sony that are experimenting with virtual reality type experiences."

Hocking said earlier this year that the technology to realise the virtual reality dreams of the 20th century is now available.

"We've now got the power to do it, we've got the screen resolution to do it, we've got the processing power to update fast enough so that we can have very, very immersive experiences on head-mounted displays in gaming in the not too distant future," he said.

"Being in a virtual world where I can see my virtual hands or a virtual gun, with all the things we can do in the gaming world, is going to be absolutely amazing."

Hopefully the virtual reality games aren't so real. that people start to not be able to distinguish between the games and real life.

Funny enough, i was thinking the same thing. there would have to be a cut off limit for how long you are playing. if you look at all the trouble people had with WOW, playing too long and not eating or drinking. just imagine the chaos if you were in a virtual WOW. Im sure they will implament a kind of security measure, unfortunatly, i think its will only be after a few casualties.

And by a few casualties, that sadly means like 10-20 tops.

All technologies have their flaws, but before we judge this VR, lets hope it actually lives up to the image we have of proper VR! if it turns out like some wii crap, im going to be very dissapointed!! i want real action VR!!

I think its a good idea, I like this a hell of a lot more then the 3D stuff that's been released into the world. Even if its just a screen you can put on your head, it would be like a mobile 50in TV that you can bring where ever you go! The possibilities!

My dreams of having sex with a virtual character customized in every aspects to my tastes don't seem so farfetched now do they? take that haters!!! this is very interesting indeed, especially if people in the virtual world can react to you touching them...dirty things are flowing through my mind right now.

no matter what happens some idiot is gonna do that and get obsessed with this thing. But it will probably be a cartoony like world and depending on the games. 4chan would probably be so happy about walking around in an anime world lol.

I believe we will have eye problems with this in the first Gen, and yes we do need a play time limit for several reasons. This will not be healthy but I wanna see what this ends up being like. It might be pretty cool or it will be a failure. I'm not sure how we are gonna walk around in this virtual world. With a controller or some kind of motion.

If this is gonna be a good system it's gonna take a long time to make it. We need reactions to touch the Npc's, talking to them ect. If this gets online play that would be awesome.

I can imagine it now lol just walk into a tavern, "are you an important npc?" *no responce* "okay guess not" then just keep going on looking for them lol but they might be marked.

As far as I know we've had virtual reality for a while. There was something I watched a while ago where someone had made their town centre in a virtual reality simulation and you could actually walk around it it. The problem was they need massive multi-way treadmills to able to walk around in it.

The obvious way around this for games would be just use the display like in your pics but still use the controllers we know and love for movement. Still, imagine games like Oblivion or Fallout - those tolkein-esque games - where when you move your head you're view actually changes.

for people that don't know this stuff was tried before but WAY too soon on an over expensive crappy system, I just hope our tech has improved enough to lay this out properly.

Ooh I like, I can't remember where I found it and read about it but supposedly there's a usb vest attachment for FPS based games that shock you so you feel pain everytime you get shot. I think VR gaming will be a godsend imho. I always dreamt of it~

It is so easy to fool the human senses. a full VR experience should be possible. only when they find a way to have a head set that can connect to your brain itself will we be able to fully enjoy it. imagine being able to do more than just crouch in a FPS!! it will be insane!! i believe we should be able to build this technology! if they dont rush this and do it correct, it will be the new way we all will do gaming and online shopping. (i believe ill be even more of a lazy bastard than i am now. lol)

Wait, are you talking about like creating a virtual copy of yourself and that gets put into the games, etc?

I'm thinking he means more of a Ghost in the Shell /Cyberworld like experience. Though, plenty of people are actually getting chip implants into their brain from what I hear. I even read somewhere that you can connect that implant to your personal credentials like credit cards and such. The only real problem I can strongly voice out would be the field where "hacking" becomes an obvious issue. <_< We all know what happens in ./Hack I presume? Mm. Yesh~

I believe it should be possible. the first generation will obviously not be like that, but it will hopefully be a huge step towards it! Possibilities are endless, with technology moving faster in the last 20 years than it has done 100 years before that.

Yeah, I forgot about that, hopefully no one dies as a result of these games.

I just hope I'm able to experience this perfected VR before I go thru my middle age crisis.

(I'm 22 right now)

Haha, Sadly where there is a will - there is a way. My money is on people literally losing their lives to gaming because of their intense desire to be godlike in the VR. I mean there's nothing wrong with that but I'm sure people are going to buy their way to the top with money. I know a lot of people who already do spend $100s on cash shop items in mmorpgs.

On the flipside to that I guess it'll advance the medical field and allow us as human beings to further understand our precious health.

Anyways xD I agree, I hope I live long enough to try VR's. They've been my dream gaming console since I was a kid.
