convert subtitles

I honestly don't know. I know AegisSub lets you convert SRT to ASS, but I've never bothered with looking for the other way around because I prefer ASS and if for some reason I needed to hard-sub the subtitles I used the ASS to hardsub it rather than SRT. If Handbrake will only hardsub SRT then you should be looking for a better encoding method.

what encoder do you use?

AutoMen is the encoder I usually use, although while it will convert ASS subs I don't think it keeps the styles etc.. Usually if I'm hard-subbing I use VirtualDubMod with the DirectVOBSub plug-in. VirtualDubMod however is no longer worked on and became outdated. It will not load up MKV files unless you write up an AviSynth script using AviSynth which I was never that good at understanding. So I usually had to convert the file in AutoMen first, then use VirtualDubMod to hard-sub the subtitles. ><

I use Subtitle Edit it Help me alot I use it Some times to rip Subs like .vobsubs off DVD I am Going to Encode it will Let you Use .srt & .ssa type Subs But Not .ass Subtitles at all. Handbrake Does a Great Job Encoding if you Use the Right Setting But at times it Won't Even Burn in Subs at all unless I use .MPEG4 Format.

I use installed VobSub_2.23 and use SubResync in the file to convert them now and some times Subtitle Edit for ripping them from DVDs. but SubResync does it fast lol
