Kasoivc
Counter-Strike... involves strategy? Well... Maybe a little. When I used to play CS 1.6 (Like, when I was 10-11) we rarely ever used strategy. It all came down to who had a faster internet connection, quicker finger on the mouse, and enough hand-eye coordination to literally run and gun. We would never go for hostages and probably planted the bomb once in a blue moon. Now that's not to say other people literally played as a team (since that was the central theme to the game) but I guess I played on the servers where teamwork was not focused on heavily. My rant aside, I never really got into DoTA. I mean I played it a few times when I had Warcraft III installed but I generally played with people who called me names and ridiculed my skill level. I mean the overall concept of the game is interesting enough the least to say, but I never really enjjoyed it that much. Would you care to explain what makes it so amazing? Or why you would love to replay it over and over?

devilmaycry
@Kasoivc: The game becomes addictive when you get to know more about it. What makes it so addictive is that the game itself is a virtual reality. Unlike other games which have a predefined ending well, this one doesn't have one and more importantly the whole map is a virtual world with user commands perfectly synchronizing with the game play. Its more like cause and effect kind of games i.e. what you do now determines what happens next. Moreover its not only YOU in this game rather its the whole team. Kasoivc
But isn't DotA just two teams trying to overpower each other in order to destroy the other's base? I remember people would farm monsters to power up their "player" in order to annihilate the opposing force's AI minions so that their own could ravage the opposing team's base without interruption. Not much of a virtual reality per say, but your analysis of a "cause and effect" kind of idea does seem to suit the entire purpose of the game. =[ I probably would've been considered the newbie that fed the other team excess gold each time I died.I wouldn't mind trying my hand at DotA 2, I was just looking at the wiki and Valve is footing it, not too shabby considering the game is well known for its competitive-ness. devilmaycry
Well, it goes perfectly with the law of nature "Survival of the fittest - The strong feed upon the weak". Wont you agree? You may be a one hundred percent correct about the fact that the main objective is to destroy the other's base. But you see the best part is not the destruction rather its the team effort because at the end of the day there has to be a single winner. It is better to travel than to arrive
Kasoivc
Too true. Have you read anything about DotA2? Same concepts or will there be a new system of some sort? I can't remember if it incorporated a quest system or not but I will give that the game is heavily reliant on the overall success of the team instead of the individual. apr118
I hope it is not like any other game that requires payment in order to play. In short, I hope it is free2play.
Silvachief
League of Legends is a free to play game modelled on DotA, and is actually made by the original DotA creators. It's great to play with friends, you should check it out.
lordofelemental
Dota (Defence of the Ancients) is a good game, i was really addicted to that game about 2 - 3 years ago. it's simple: there are 2 teams and each of them can put up 5 players. then, each player can pick a hero on their side.. the game always starts with level 1 and can be maxed up to level 25. as per each hero, there are different skills within them and as the game goes, you can gain money by slaying lane creeps, neutral creeps or defeat a hero player. as for gold, you can purchase items that can make your hero stronger.it's really a fun game, very addicting if you tend to play it and the controls are quite handy. Edder
Dota 2 should be epic, if they dont change to much. Valvue will be creating it. these are the guys who brought us Half-Life!! These guys are legend! I dont know how blizzard hasnt made a scene about it, maybe they are working together. i know that "icefrog", who created Dota, will be on the Dota 2 project. so this could end up being something amazing!! They are aparently putting in alot more features, like a tutorial and a way for experienced players to help out the newbs. Looking forward to it!!!
