PC To TV Audio

Okay guys, another problem, wondering if anyone could help me.

On Friday, I bought a 40inch Bush HD LCD TV, along with a Blu-ray player and a 5.1 surround sound system. There's no decoder, just the player and the sub-woofer.

Well my problem is this. I actually brought my PC downstairs, and connected it to the TV via HDMI cable running from my Radeon HD 5770. Picture and sound is perfect, but I can't quite figure out how to tell the TV to take the audio that's coming in from the HDMI and run that through to the subwoofer, which is where my speakers are all connected.

The surround does work with the Blu-ray player, no problems, and when I'm watching Sky Digital (connected by SCART) the TV does send out sound. I'm just wracking my head how to send out HDMI sound.

The models are

TV: Bush LCD4088F1080P Colour TV

Blu-ray and Surround Sound (came in one box): Bush CHT101BLU.

The TV has the following connectors:

2 xHDMI

S/PDIF Digital Out

Subwoofer Out

Audio Line Outs

2x SCART

Component Video Inputs (YPbPr)

PC/YPbPr Audio Inputs (Stereo)

S/PDIF Coaxial Out

RF Input

PC VGA Input

My PC has 7.1 Analog sound connectors, which are different connectors than the Blu-ray/TV has.

yeah I have a similar problem, my computer is my blu-ray player. I use an HDMI cord but the sound still plays through my computer. I don't have surround sound to worry about but I'd might wanna get that one day but there's no point if it wont play off my tv

edit: ha we have the same video card ATI Radeon HD 5770, not worth an extra post

Well I think the main problem you both are having is that the computer isn't sending audio through the HDMI cable. Computer Graphics cards don't have anything to do with sound and to my knowledge there aren't any that carry sound in or out of a PC, unless maybe a graphics/capture card similar to a ATI All-in-Wonder. Even with an all-in-wonder I believe the audio is still sent to a audio input for proper processing. Some PCs come with a S/PDIF out on the mainboard itself. If yours doesn't have one of these and the other connectors are not compatible you may want to consider upgrading to an add-on audio card that has connectors that are compatible. With all the people building Home Media Center PCs now a days I think finding an add-on card shouldn't be to hard.

Hope this helps.

I do get sound from the HDMI cable. I do thank you for replying, but please, in future, read what's written. What I was asking is that while I do get full 1080p picture and sound, the TV isn't out-putting that sound back to my subwoofer. However, even if it did, it turns out that I wouldn't get surround sound: the TV is connected to the subwoofer by two stereo audio cables: the actual 5.1 connection is between the subwoofer and the blu-ray player.

I do have a S/PDIF, its digital optical, but sadly, the subwoofer doesn't.

Sorry about the miss read and understanding. I would also like to think you for pointing out that the ATI cards can handle audio without any kind of adapter or plug in. I’m afraid my tech knowledge seems to be a bit outdated these days.

As for the problem at hand, if an add-on audio card that offers 5.1 audio out isn’t an option and the tech support from the manufacturer isn’t any help either. I would recommend posting your question in the Audio Theory section of the AVS Forum. It’s a forum that deals in a large array of audio video problems and technology. Afraid you will have to become a member to post there, but it is a great place to get tech help.

Sorry I couldn’t be of more help to you. Hopefully someone else here can offer a better answer.
