Account Deletion Requests

I get a lot of PMs from users requesting their account to be deleted because they don't have a use of the forum anymore. I'd like to point out that you don't need to PM me for this.

 

You have the option to request deletion your account in your profile settings.

Once that request is made, staff will approve the process when they can. Thanks.

Huh. I'm surprised that any amount of people would follow through with requesting a deletion rather than simply not visiting. I guess it's the right thing to do from a data-conscious or cybersecurity point of view. I struggle to get people to manage their accounts even when they're paid to do so at work. You have some very attentive users!

You'd be correct. This is usually to be compliant with data privacy laws. Forums didn't always offer options like this even in their prime years in the past, in fact it was exceptionally rare. It was only when jurisdictions around the world began clamping down on data privacy that you started seeing these options appear.
