Female centric reboots are becoming the big thing. We have already seen Ghostbusters, Ocean’s 8, and What Men Want. A female-centric 21 Jump Street is also in the works, but that’s not the only buddy-cop franchise getting the female reboot treatment.

STX studios are in early development on a female-centric reboot of the popular action comedy Rush Hour.

Details on the series are being kept under-wraps at this time. However, we have learned that the studio has offered one of the leading roles to The Meg star Bingbing Li, in the Jackie Chan role. No details to who would star opposite Li.

It is not known at this time if the long-awaited Rush Hour 4 will still happen. Back in January, The films co-star Chris Tucker shared an update on the project.

“We’re working on a few things on the script right now, so we’re trying to get into production, but we’re working on it and trying to get it going. Jackie Chan wants to do it, I want to do it, the studio wants to do it, so we’re trying to get it together. I was definitely down as long as it comes together right – and it looks like it’s coming together right.”

The three previous Rush Hour films were a success at the box office. Grossing a combined $850 million at the worldwide box office. In 2016, CBS took Rush Hour to the small screen with Justin Hires and Jon Foo in the respective roles made famous by Tucker and Chan. The series was cancelled after one season.
