Sorry for not updating in a while. From here on I will discuss minor spoilers (just interactions between characters. I won't spoil major plot points or the results of said encounters. I'll also use spoiler tags. This is just a warning for anyone reading this later.)

I was on a business trip for ~12 days and I'm expecting a child soon so there's been a lot of preparation surrounding that. I'm still chipping away at CS III in the evening before bed. I toss in an hour or two here & there. I last updated around the end of Chapter 1? Now I'm halfway through Chapter 3. I'm past all the Crossbell stuff, and I' doing the "Free Day" events of Ch. 3. Just finished Einhel Keep Lv 3, I find that these get progressively easier. There's chatter online about how easy this entry of the series is, and so far it has been. Fighting a certain two characters in Crossbell was tricky, but not "hard" by any means. A few fights in Azure really activated my almonds, but nothing so far in CS III. It's kind of nice to enjoy the story and not having to sperg out about Orbments or Evasion tanking.

I've noticed a minor effort in CS III to diminish cheesing double-advantage in enemy encounters. In the Crossbell games where you can smack the enemy and run into them for Advantage...i assume you guys did the same as me. Wait for them to turn around, OR, purposefully alert and kite them until they reach the end of their chasing range & turn around towards their patrol zone. Then you can hit them from the back with impunity. I probably only fought one or two encounters without Double-Advantage in Zero/Azure.

The enemies in CS III have Punk'd me several times. They work mostly the same, chasing to the end of a set range before going back...but you can't stand directly in front of them and wait to hit them in the back. Their chasing range will reset and they'll catch you. If you stand there waiting for them to turn around and walk away, they'll just start running at you again. It was pretty funny a few times how I got ganked.

Spoiler

Musse and Ash joined the new Class VII in this chapter. I like them both, so that was a welcome addition to the very small main cast. They had sort of exhausted what could be done with Juna, Kurt & Altina + Rean.

Honestly pretty much all of the games start out harder than they end. It's like once you've build up a decent assortment of quartz to load out your party you can just walk all over everything. The beginning is only semi-tougher because you've got no options.

Spoiler

I really like Ash. I set him up to be very strong and he could basically wipe everything on his first attack. Musse also ends up being fantastic at Arts, rivaling even Emma at times.

By Chapter 3 this game is a breeze. I agree with the consensus online that it may be a bit too easy. I suppose that's what difficulty settings are for. As for your spoiler text...I am using both in my part. I prefer them to Altina/Kurt. I keep Juna around due to her stellar Break stats. Altina doesn't really fill a good role since she's slow & not amazing at magic compared to the newer person I just got. That gap will widen by late-game I'm sure. Kurt can be built to be some sort of speedy evasion-tank, I'm sure...but that's boring. I'd rather go on the offensive with the other new character the way you did. I think we have similar strategies/playstyles.

As for a progress update: I'm on the 3rd field mission. I just left the fort with

in tow.

Not sure if this is the right thread, but I just wanted to pop in and say that I've started the Erebonia Arc.  I'll make it to Cold Steel III, somehow, some way.  But, for now, I just finished Ch.1 of Cold Steel.

EDIT/UPDATE (2023/03/08; 2:23PMCST)

2025/03/08; 1:30AMCST.....I finished Trails of Cold Steel.  Will get to CS2 later today (maybe).  Just know that I'm gettin' there, @Zemekis. 😏

In the final dungeon now. As you can tell from my posting frequency, my son was born. CS III is taking me half a year to finish 😅
It gets easier and easier as you go. The Break system turns every boss fight into the exact same thing. Rush them down to break 'em, boost DMG & hit all your S-Crafts. The story in this game is great but the battles are some of the most boring out of the series due to the super-low chance of ever losing a fight. Even enemies that are hyped up in the story are pushovers. Some of the reveals towards the end of the game have been enjoyable. It's still having the issue of opening fresh cans of worms without closing any, though. I have CS4 helps tie up a few loose ends...but from what @Koby has said, that won't be the case. 😵‍💫
