HIDIVE to Offer Dubs for Simulcast Anime Within 2 Weeks of Premiere

Anime streaming service HIDIVE announced on Friday that it will begin streaming "dubcasts," local-language dubbed versions of select anime simulcasts, within two weeks of the first simulcast episodes. The company will initially focus on English-language versions with the spring 2018 simulcast season. The dubs will be available to subscribers.

The term "dubcast" is a trademark of HIDIVE. Similarly, the term "simuldub" is a trademark of FUNimation Entertainment.

Thus far this season, HIDIVE has announced a simulcast for Alice or Alice. Sentai Filmworks has also licensed Devils' Line for streaming but has not yet confirmed that it will stream on HIDIVE. HIDIVE has not confirmed any specific titles for dubbing.

The HIDIVE streaming service launched last June after acquiring assets previously held by Anime Network Online. The service has primarily streamed titles — including simulcasts and English dubs — that are licensed for home video by Section23 Films and its subsidiary Sentai Filmworks, though it has also added some older titles such as Space Runaway Ideon, Xabungle, and the live-action Lone Wolf and Cub series. Sentai Filmworks president and CEO John Ledford is also the founder and president of HIDIVE.

HIDIVE has since released apps for iOS and Android devices. The service will launch out of beta with a new pricing plan on April 9.

I'm thinking about subbing to HiDive, though not sure how trustworthy they are or if they have a lot of different sows than Funimation. Anyone know how good their service is and how it compares to Funimation? And by the way, thanks Koby for the info.

HIDIVE is the new home for all Sentai Filmworks licensed shows to be Simulcast. HIDIVE also bought out TheAnimeNetwork (TAN) and got their library. They're perfectly safe to subscribe to and clearly they're upping their game by adding dubcasts to their line up. So if you want to watch Sentai Filmworks Simulcasts or Dubcasts legally, then a HIDIVE subscription is the way to go.

My only issue is how expensive it's getting for people who subscribe to all these services as more pop up and various studios support various services. I mean Disney is pulling away from Netflix to start their own stream service. More services equal more competition which leads to better competitive pricing typically, but having to subscribe to a dozen services versus a single service becomes a hassle and the cost adds up.

Amazon's AnimeStrike died because they put it behind a ridiculously expensive double pay-wall, but I suppose they still stream anime without AnimeStrike now but it seems like they're no longer really in the game in terms of fighting to stay on top. Daisuki seems to have mostly fallen under the radar, except for Sunrise productions.

So in terms of anime, the big four at least for now are FUNimation, Crunchyroll, Netflix, and HIDIVE.

Yeah, the prices are really adding up with all the new ones. I cut cable to save money, but I want my Netflix and Funimation, now I'm looking at HiDive and I really want the Disney and DC ones. Problem is, this is all adding up so quick if it doesn't stop it will end up costing more than my cable did.
