Satabell
I'll be buying the AMD FX 6300 6coreand want to know if it's good for encoding. I won't overclock it until I get a watercooling system. Here is the rest of my parts- MSI 970A-G46- MSI R7 250 2GD3 OC- G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB
JohnFlower
Define 'good for encoding'. It is a low end CPU, so you shouldn't expect the world from it. It will encode, though, and if all you're looking for is quick Handbrake like jobs then it will be fine.
undertehker
According to many budget build articles, that is one of the best cpus to get. Also, I think that you might can get by with using a cheaper air cooler instead. For example, the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo is frequently suggested in many builds. I have a question of my own. With Turbo Core enabled, would an AMD FX-8320E be better than a FX-6300? From what I understand, the Turbo Core shuts down idle cores and overclocks the active ones automatically whenever half the cores are unused. I would think that the extra two cores in the FX-8320E would take advantage of that.

Also I don't know about Turbo Core except it raise the clock to 4.0ghz to 4.1ghz. The 2 extra cores should be more useful. ZeroPenguins
If your watercooler costs about half or more of your CPU I would recommend that you don't bother with a watercooler. Go invest in an aircooler and put more money either into your CPU or GPU.

Aircooler was my choice but I just want a quiet system. I have a R7 250 but I'm planing to get a GTX 760 or better in December. Since Witcher 3 comes out in February. Your CPU is only $100 and your cooler costs $50, if you ask me that's a bad investment for a budget build. It should be 20-30% of your CPU, but if you do plan on upgrading the CPU to that octa core, then go ahead.

Also I just order all my parts today, and I'm sticking with FX-6300. It will be fine with the stock cooler or an alternate fan cooler when OC. In January I should get the FX-8320E, which needs Watercooling for OC. Thank you for the Help. Also I accidentally deleted all my anime (500+gb worth). So Encoding going to wait for a couple of months.
