-Zero-
Well, the title says it all. Studio Ghibli has elected to close its animation department(sort of) due to what is apparently a string of financial losses, mostly due to the underwhelming box office performance of When Marnie Was There or something along those lines. Apparently it all started with rumors but eventually it was confirmed by Toshio Suzuki himself that the studio would be reduced to only trademark management. Some sources are claiming that it is only a temporary break but this is still unknown. Here are some sources regarding the matter: Hypable:http://www.hypable.com/2014/08/03/studio-ghibli-announces-closure/ FlickeringMyth:http://www.flickeringmyth.com/2014/08/studio-ghibli-closes-doors.html First Showing:http://www.firstshowing.net/2014/studio-ghibli-announces-they-will-be-shutting-down/ and here's the apparent confirmation from Toshio Suzuki from the Oh-Totoro Tumblr: http://oh-totoro.com/post/93700803450/studio-ghibli-announces-closure-toshio-suzuki If anyone else has other sources, please feel free to share. Update: Here's a new Kotaku article supporting the "break" scenario that Ghibli might take. http://kotaku.com/studio-ghibli-is-not-dead-yet-1615520289 Edited August 4, 2014 by Seraph
Tsukumo Yuma
http://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-news/2014/08/03-1/studio-ghibli-co-founders-tv-appearance-stokes-talk-of-changesHere is a scource, they aren't saying they are clossing for good, but Myazaki has been the only one to keep them afloat for a while. While most of the other movies, don't even make enough to cover the cost of making the movies. Also the exspinsive cost of some employies that make said movies that turn out to be box office flops, but those are the only ones left. From what i have seen, they spend way to much money to make there movies, way more then neccicary to make a movie, they have been for years. They should try making a low budget movie.
