Xanders
It sounds kinds alien to me although I did some research on what it is, but I still don't understand what it really does. Through another friend of mine said something about booting an OS within your current OS well never mind that.My true purpose is that I'm trying to get Kali Linux up running, my friend suggested burning it into live DVD or flash it into a thumb drive(which I don't know how), which leaves me with the option of burning it into a Live DVD and I'm ok with it but from the download page I've noticed it comes with VMware Image, ARMEL Image and Mini ISO, are they some kind of an virtual image like ISO(s) or something else entirely ? lemmingllama
Well first off, are you just going to run it off the disc occasionally? If you are planning on using it only if your computer is in dire straights, then a disc is a good idea. If you just want to run it alongside your current browser, VMware is probably better in my opinion. Basically you have another OS running in a window, just like any other program except that its a touch more complex since you can then run other programs within that window. Anyways, try to find an ISO if you want it on disc, or an OVA if you want it for a virtual machine. I haven't used them that often, but my experiences with Oracle's Virtualbox has been quite nice. Xanders
Why can't I just copy everything from the ISO into a USB Drive/DVD and boot from it ? Is it because it requires a boot system file in order to boot properly ?
† L4ugh
VMware is kind of like the emulators you'd use to play Nintendo games on your PC. Instead of emulating a Nintendo it emulates a PC so you can run an OS inside another OS. The VMware image is basically an image made from an OS already running inside VMware. It's designed to drop right into VMware so you don't have to worry about going through the install process yourself. If you're looking for a way to get Kali onto a thumbdrive, take a look at UNetbootin. It's designed to make the process fairly easy.
