Hello.

DuLake

Recommended Posts

Soooo. . . It's been awhile. Anyone who's paying attention will not only notice my established post count, but also that I haven't been seen around here. Some of you might recognize me (I recognized a few names on the bottom of the front page, anywho) as I used to be a regular in these parts a while back (yikes, almost two years, is it?). Anyway, life got busy and I stopped showing up and didn't return because I felt bad about my dessertion, but, suddenly, life isn't so busy and I thought it might be fun to pop back in (since it was a fun place back in the day). That all to say, I'm not really new, but I've been gone so long I felt it was safe to post an introduction.

So, that out of the way, hello. How are you? I'm JB, obviously I go by "DuLake." Quite recently, I graduated from college with a B.S. in Communications (minor in Creative Writing, prospective employers are positively hard for that, don't you know). I do a few things, but my primary concern in life is writing. I write just about anything, so long as it can be satirical. Most exciting, perhaps, is the screenplay I wrote that was shot indie-style and is eternally in post-production (probably best that nobody sees it anyway) and my NaNoWriMo victory (I'll totally get around to rewriting it too. . .).

Let's see. . . More about me. My favorite film is Taxi Driver. My favorite writer is Chuck Pahlaniuk, though I'm also quite fond of Anthony Burgess and Kurt Vonnegut. Anything Post-Modern, really. I harbor a not-so-secret ambition to write for Roger Corman.

That should be everything there is to know about me. So. . . I can be done now?

Nope.  It got father but I haven't finished it yet.  And I don't think I will at this point. Most of my effort with it's just vanished ; n;  but don't worry!  I'm going to have a new thing coming around after notepad works with the dark lords of the internet and accepts my offering of frustrated tears and i finally get some kind of idea after binging on hardcore punk from the 70's.

Haha, I have no clue what that means! But awesome! I love punk rock though, does that count?

I've been in this weird place though, I've been doing terrific word counts on command, but none of it clicks and so I can't do anything with it. It's the worst most fantastic writer's block I've ever had.

Dude marry me.  I fucking

love

punk

okay like holy shit

favorite band?

for me it's a tie between Misfits, Circle Jerks, The Dickies and Black Flag.  I'm not too big on English punk though, and it's pretty clear that West Coast punk is what I prefer lmao  out of all of the ones I listed, only Misfits is East Coast punk and it's SUCH a big difference in style like seriously.

I haven't listened to Ramones much oops.  I gotta fix this I mean damn.  It's so obvious but I missed it.  I've mostly stuck to punk from the late 70's-eARLY 80's though.  Like I don't have anything past 1988 and that's an EP by The Dickies.  The earliest punk album I have is from '76, I think?  It's Richard Hell and the Voidoids even u wu

Offspring??  Well, I follow the school of thought that it's perfectly okay for a band to transcend genres.  So yes.

I had one of their albums back in the day.  I don't have it anymore though.  It's good listening.  And naturally, The Sex Pistols i mean cOME ON it's not a discussion about punk without mentioning them somehow.  A lot of goth bands have roots in punk, such as Sisters of Mercy and The Cure.  Christian Death too.  I also know my mid-80's goth lmao
