seirachan Posted April 3, 2013 Report Share Posted April 3, 2013 So I had this retarded idea to reinstall my video card drivers on my spare PC I'm trying to sell and now I fucked it up really bad. I'm not sure if I got the wrong drivers or what but the install all went through but for some reason it just didn't work at all, every time I start up that computer after awhile no matter what I'm doing the screen just randomly turns blank, I checked for video drivers in device manager and it didn't show anything. I keep trying to run the drivers again and it just goes blank forever during install. I'm at my wits end, I tried safe mode and same thing as well. JohnFlower Posted April 3, 2013 Report Share Posted April 3, 2013 i hope you downloaded the drivers directly from amd. i don't trust any source other than the manufacturer. do you remember which version you had before upgrading? you can try to install that version. My power suppy is modular so I didn't see any reason to mess around with the wires not sure if there is a second video card hook up on the motherboard. I was using a HDMI cord plugged into my tv and yeah I did try unplugging it and putting it back in but still did nothing, Also tried my Monitor iunno the name for the cord though but it's one of the two big ones on the back. JohnFlower Posted April 4, 2013 Report Share Posted April 4, 2013 start with keeping the card cold. install msi afterburner and make yourself a custom fan profile. now go here and get your driver (Desktop Graphics > Radeon HD series > Radeon HD 5xxx > Windows 7 - ??bit). you want the 'Catalyst Software Suite'. shadowtheman Posted May 13, 2013 Report Share Posted May 13, 2013 (edited) Easy, wipe the hard drive first. Due to the fact that your selling it it won't be a big deal. Reinstall the os. Then go to device manager under your controle panal. Check what it says under display adapters, this should tell you what vid card is in your system. (if not for some reason your bios page for you motherboard will have it as well) Then go on the net and install the correct software. Note that what your looking for the sereies number when looking for the soft ware. Mines says AMD radoen HD 7800 series. So I need the 7800 series software that works for all the 7800s and up. If you don't wanna wipe the drive you can try uninstalling the incorrect drivers. This could prove difficult, sometimes the drivers aren't listed under the installed programs. Locate them by checking the all programs tab or by searching the name under your search bar for there location. There should be an uninstall. You can also right click the card under your display adaptors tab mentioned earlier for an option, but it doesn't always work. The one issue with doing it this way is that with out a prouninstaller program things might get left behind in your regristry that may cause the new drivers to not work correctly. seirachan Posted May 15, 2013 Author Report Share Posted May 15, 2013 I wasn't able to wipe the computer or anything I lost $200 out of it but he still took it for parts, since 1-2 were probably broken it stopped even getting power to boot up.
