seirachan
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1MD Radeon HD 7870 Serieshttp://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=69828&vpn=FX787ACNFC&manufacture=XFX 932GB Seagate ST1000DM003-9YN162 ATA Device (SATA)SAMSUNG DVDWBD SH-B083L ATA DevicePower supplyhttp://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=43101&promoid=1201 Towerhttp://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=77251 Motherboardhttp://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=70263&promoid=1338Ramhttp://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=59431&promoid=1338Processorhttp://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=70541&promoid=1270 So put it altogether, Put motherboard disc in, Computer goes on windows loading screen for half a second and restarts, go into motherboard BIOS, no install no anything exit. Computer goes into windows loading screen half a second and restarts. Bring it home, Try to reformat drive and reinstall windows 7 But it says "windows can not be installed to this disk the selected disk has an MBR partition table on EFI systems, windows can only be installed to GPT disks." try to repair using windows 7 disc, not compatible. Which is bullshit because that was the windows on the hard drive. So I reformat, still can't install, reformat, still can't install. So I plug in one of my older Hard drives, gets a blue screen. I'm done fuck everything.
JohnFlower
when you "reformat" what are you doing exactly? are you booting off a windows cd/usb, selecting the drive you want to install windows and, delete it, format it and then clicking next? seirachan
is your cpu cooler plugged in? you don't mention any aftermarket cooler here, so i hoped you watched a video or two on how to install them properly.EDIT: also if you are using an ssd, update the firmware before doing anything else. is your cpu cooler plugged in? you don't mention any aftermarket cooler here, so i hoped you watched a video or two on how to install them properly.EDIT: also if you are using an ssd, update the firmware before doing anything else.I have an expert friend that helped me put it together, everything is in their right places but I had to go home to reformat thinking it might fix my porblem and no I have no SSD just the seagate hard drive stated above

JohnFlower
select all the related disks and delete them then. sometimes windows creates other partitions on the disk for recovery, so delete all the partitions made. you should be left with just disk0 and no partitions. go ahead and format that. JohnFlower
well, without a picture of the layout of your drives, i can't tell what is going on. you said you deleted all the partitions that were created before. make sure you are selecting the biggest partition, and not the recovery one. I did and I ahve installed windows on that same hard drive as well. The only explanation I can think of is the CD will not install twice on the same hard drive due to some fucked up programing. JohnFlower
i'm pretty sure you can use the disc to install windows as many times as you like. the problem is with the activation key. i guess you can try disconnecting before booting (while pc is off, just unplug the sata cable from the motherboard), then reconnecting the drive while you are in the drive section of the installation. click refresh once you have reconnected it, and it should pop right up. if you still cant install from there, i'm at a loss. † L4ugh
"windows can not be installed to this disk the selected disk has an MBR partition table on EFI systems, windows can only be installed to GPT disks." This error makes me think it's an issue with the UEFI your mobo uses instead of the old Bios. I did a google search of the actual error message and came up with a link to another forum. Link to post Below is the answer the guy seemed to come up with. However, this morning I found the answer. Like most issues, once you know what to do, it's really very easy. I'm hoping that my easy fix will help some others who are Googling for answers. When I dropped my Win7 disk into my Sony optical drive and re-booted, I had no way of knowing that the BIOS set up a second drive labeled "UEFI Sony Optical". All I knew was when I reached the disk choice option I couldn't install Windows. During one of the re-boots, I realized that my boot order had changed. I saw "UEFI Sony Optical", so I went into the CD-DVD Drive options and now saw "Sony Optical", listed just under "UEFI Sony Optical". All I did was change the drive in the #1 Boot Order field to "Sony Optical", hit F10 to "Save and Reboot". This time when I hit the "choose disk to install windows" screen, there were no error messages, and I could install Windows on any of my drives, just as I had done for years. I don't know if everyone's fix for the issue would be the same as mine. But it's sure worth a try. Just make sure that you are not trying to run your Windows disk from any optical drive that says "UEFI". I hope this helps some one out there! Sounds like the UEFI might be creating an extra boot option that is screwing with your installation process. I haven't gotten a chance to play with the new UEFI yet, so I can't be certain this is your problem. My best guess would be that it does have something to do with the UEFI. Dae314
Try Laugh's answer first. I wonder if Windows isn't reformatting the drive nicely like it should. You can try something like this and completely wipe the disk to vanilla state and try again if you need to.

Edit: the only thing I can't get working is the fan that is built in to the tower, It's plug in is a 3 slot thing but all the fan plug in's in the motherboard are 4, I tried 2 of them, doesn't work Edit: WAIT got the fan to work, just had to put it in different places Edited February 2, 2013 by seirachan
