PS3 Graphics Issue

I'm not entirely sure this is the right section for this. If not, I'm sorry.

I recently noticed that I'm having some issues with the graphics on my Playstation 3. It's a used PS3 that I bought from a local video game store about two summers ago. I'm using the AVI output in conjunction with an older television that doesn't support HDMI.

I guess I first noticed the problem when playing a used copy of Assassin's Creed. The graphics flicker quite frequently, and the characters become misshapen at times (sprouting pointy elbows or having like black lines coming out of their heads). I figured it was the game, being used and who knows how old or beat up.

But yesterday I bought the Journey Collection. A brand new copy. And I noticed similar flickering graphics. Not the other weird thingies, so it wasn't anything major, but it was a little distracting.

Now I'm wondering if there's something wrong with my PS3. And if so, is it something I could fix at home (beware, I'm a newb), or would I have to take it somewhere for repairs? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Does the flickering happen when you're not in game either?

Like if you watch a video or just browse the XMB? If so, then it might just be a problem with the AV output wire and can be quite easily fixed just by getting a new wire.

As for Assassin's Creed, I remember the first one had quite some technical issues when I played it at home on a CRT tv with AV output compared to when I played it at college on an HD tv. Journey didn't give me any problems on the CRT though so it may be a problem with the tv also.

It sounds like it could just be an issue with the tv or cable that's distorting the image and making it look spastic. AC 1 did have a lot of graphical errors though and glitched out a fair bit for most, luckily I seem to of gotten an okay copy of it. AC could also just be because the game was used, I don't buy used games because it's always my belief people get rid of them when they are starting to stuff up or are glitchy as hell
