Laptop problems

So my mother gave me her laptop since it's not working. Well when it starts up it starts up a repair that just says it cannot be automatically repaired and shuts down, and I can't get to to boot from disc to install windows 7. It used to be Windows Vista, the slowest snail of a computer but it was a $1000 gaming computer so I don't get that. But overtime I'm sure my brother filled it with virus's and my mother had norten so... yeah. even when I get windows installed if I do, Drivers are gonna be the worst pain cause I heard horror stories about internet drivers getting whipped and they wanna CONNECT to the internet to install. I also can't do a system restore cause she never set that up.

Edit: I just found my moms back ups and the laptop wont read it.

If you can't even boot from the install disk, there may be hardware problems on your computer. You can try to install from a USB though.

ISOs can be found here (hopefully...):

As far as drivers go, since you have a laptop, the manufacturer (Dell, HP, etc.) should have Windows 7 drivers for it.

You can download drivers on the same device that you're using now to post on these forums and just transfer them to your mom's computer via USB drive, or something similar. If it wasn't a custom built PC with an OEM or retail copy of Vista then it should have all the drivers on the OS installation disc. Also try uninstalling unused programs, I uninstall everything besides my internet browser and its prerequisites for my parents' computers. And if you really want to make it fast as possible you can throw in a SSD.

Is it getting through the bios part of the boot up?

Did you change the boot order in the bios before you tried to boot into the boot disk?

Do you know if the labtop was dropped recently?

It kind of sounds like windows is trying to check the file system but is unable to complete the process. You may have a damaged hard drive.

Okay the CD Drive is gone so the USB worked after I changed the boot settings and got it all installed. So far running good looking for my drivers but the touch pad also doesn't work

This is the laptop http://support.acer....e8930Gsp2.shtml

Not my pic but a pic of the laptop, the touch volume control is going up and down but not affecting the sound and I dont think the finger print scanner is working either and I have no way to test it.

All the drivers are here http://support.acer.com/product/default.aspx?modelId=131 Currently downloading Audio, Camera, Fingerprint, and touch pad, anyone suggest more?

You should be able to find all the drivers you need on the Asus site. The reason why your touch pad and other stuff might not be working is because you haven't gotten the drivers in yet xD. Sounds like you're OK, but I am wary of other hardware problems. Back up what you put on that laptop's hard drive in case the drive is actually giving out.

You may be able to use the vista driver, some are compatible with both.

I had downloaded the driver first but after turning off and on 5 times it randomly worked. So the only thing not working is the keyboard volume control. I tried to set up the finger print scanner and it couldn't read my 1cm pinky lol but yeah thanks guys.
