Well Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeros has been announced and its supposed to be open world!!!? (*EDIT: According to the Metal Gear Wikia it will serve as a prequel to MGS 5) From what i can tell you play as Big Boss for at least part of it as demonstrated in the trailer. One character hands another a cassette Walkman which suggests its set sometime in the late 70's or 80's as. This leaves the possibility for loads of characters to return.

here's the trailer http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=L5IVOs5Pxh8%5B/media%5D#!'>http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=L5IVOs5Pxh8#!

Heres a link to the ign page with the trailer and extended gameplay. http://uk.ign.com/ar...zeroes-gameplay

A movie has also been announced which is being produced by Avi Arad who has worked on a few of the recent marvel films such as X-Men and Iron Man

(UPDATE)*

Ground Zeros will feature a Peace Walker inspired base building and customisation you will be able to develop your weapons there, walk round your base in real time and will get there via the a helicopter at any time. Your base can also be managed via smart phones and other devices.

(UPDATE 2)*

The Phantom Pain......

God knows what this is but it has so many references to Metal Gear, its already been called a possible Metal Gear Solid 5 trailer???

Another new trailer

It intrigues me too, but it must be quite big to warrent putting in a helicopter which you can use for fast travel.

how will open world work?

haven't actually played a MGS game yet, plan on getting the HD collection though:)

If you haven't played a metal gear game yet I do recommend the HD collection however i think you should really play MGS 1 first if you really want to appreciate the story and the characters, the graphics look a bit shabby these days but they have a certain charm to them. So if you if you have a ps3 or psp get on the PSN and download yourself a copy.

I'm really excited for obvious reasons.

One of the things that I was always impressed with from these games were the escalation. The direction the game went, the things you ended up doing before it ended. They were always amazing to me.

I cannot express how anxious I am to see how this is going to escalate with an open world environment.

I can't wait for this. Since it's a prologue to MGS5 just means that there is another MGS on the way. MGS4 was the perfect ending but there was still some details about what happened with Big Boss and Solid Snake before the Outer Heaven Uprising in the very first MG. I for one, really like the idea of the open world since, if you recall conversations in MGS1, Portable Ops and Peacewalker was that Big Boss roamed battlefield after battlefield. So this plays into the factor of the story quite well.

As for the movie, I can't help but be pessimistic since they won't be able to cover all of the story in a mere 2 let alone 3 hours unless they make Part 1 and Part 2 like Harry Potter. Best candidate would have to be Hugh Jackman in my opininion. Can't think of anyone else that could pull it off at the moment.

I'm a bit iffy about the possibility of a MGS movie tbh. If they fuck up Snake or Big Boss, I'll never watch a movie produced by that director again and I would make good on that promise.

However, I'm nothing but fucking stoked for MGS:GZ. Hopefully MGS5 will have The Boss as the main controllable character >_> I would fucking buy the console necessary to play it if she was and still retained her unadulterated amazingnes

But yeah, a MGS game taking place in the 70's/80's? Sign me up. I hope it'll have EVA involved somehow.

I completely agree with you about the movie and to be honest it will more than likely be an epic disappointment (at least for Metal Gear fans) as most movies based on games are but i know i wont be able to help myself and watch it anyway.

As for having The Boss for the main playable character for Ground Zeros, that seems unlikely but would be cool to have her in the game in some how playable or not. Although i think i would much prefer to have a Snake Eater prequel to play as The Boss set in WW2 or just after so the whole of Cobra unit could be in it.
