skate.101
well my friend had bought an external 2 TB harddisk about 6 months ago and he has been facing problems like the external getting overheated so the question is, is this a global problem or just with his external and wanted to ask whether it would be wise to buy a 2TB external harddisk or two 1.5/1TB plug and play portables if the difference in amount isn't much ...P.S. I suck at even the basic techy stuff ...
sdtbl13
Nearly all external hard drives have relatively high failure rates, but the portable ones are almost always higher than their desktop counterparts. Out of the two options you mentioned, I still would prefer to have the two hdds and have copies on both. I currently have 3 hdds and everything is on at least two of them to make sure I don't lose any data, because if you only have one and it fails (which there is like a 5-10% chance) then you're screwed. I hope this helps.
lemmingllama
For stuff like overheating, it just means that his hard-drive isnt the best. All hard drives will die after a while, but one overheating just means that it wasnt a good drive to begin with. A 2TB is just as good as two 1TB, plus it will have a bit more space on it. Really just look at reviews and try to get sales, then you will get the best value
bezelbubba
try and keep then n a poen space, overheating may indicate a firmware problem where the drive is running. Most external drives have a power save features where it will spin down and dock the heads to extend the life of the drive. Many ofthese drives are made with low end , slow, green drives. You can alsys run it with out a case or replace it.
