† Anras Rune
Well, I've never noticed if folks on here have talked about these game, something that I hope to change. So, has anyone here got a Total War game? Anybody played it? Anyone still play it?I bring this up cause I recently got back into the series due to a friend, and have been playing all it's incarnations since. For those that don't know of the Total War franchise, it is a realistic real time tactical game, where the player controls military units on the battle field. Some of the more popular titles were Empire and Napoleon (set in imperial expansion period) and Shogun I & II both set in feudal Japan.Anyways, if anybody has these games, on steam or otherwise, say so here. I'd love to discuss strategies for any of the games (I own all of them) and maybe play against some folks at some point!
lemmingllama
They are all great games, and I have love in my heart specifically towards Rome Total War. However, the only ones that I own right now are Empire and Napolean. The greatest thing about this game is the satisfaction of charging a pile of cavlary down a hill and taking out an entire flank in one go.
Nero D. Ace
I've got Total War Shogun 2 on Steam and although i never played past the tutorials (though I always meaned to!), i must say that it really intrigued me.If it weren't for StarCraft 2, I'd probably be playing it day in and day out. Play. Now.I love starcraft II in all, but seriously there is nother like total war games. If you ever decide to start playing again add me on steam: anras_rune.Anyhoo, I have to disagree with you there lemming. The most satisfying thing in total war is either when you've scaled/cracked the walls of a massive fortress and begin the massacre. Or when a heavy onager/trebuchet/catapult/cannon/whatever fires a shot right in the middle of an enemy formation....ah bliss. I will say though, give me an urban defence on any of them... field battles are often my weak point comparatively.Any units in specific you guys like? And armed peasants are super hilarious, sometimes I will make an army full of armed peasants and make a blob of doom. Also, I love assassins. Its just so awesome that you get cool cutscenes depicting fun killings. I particularly love the old Shogun ones for that

Some of the cut scenes are pretty funny as well, like if a ninja fails and falls out a tree right on top of the target....lolFavourite units just now are the Shimazu Katana samurai in Shogun 2...nothing can stop them in a seige defence, cutting down everything in sight due to the lack of cavalry. I do like the Yari Samurai Cavalry too, their charge is pretty epic. In Rome however, I almost always went with phalanxes so my fave unit would either be the Sacred Guard guys, or the Spartan Hoplites.
AgeOfHades
the total war's are definetly worth the buy, ive got shogun 2 and medieval total war. both are great games, although they seem to be leaning more towards modern tech the further along in games they go, especially with their most recent game, Fall of the samurai.regardless, still a good series

Warx
I've been meaning to get Total War. It looks pretty interesting. Is it anything like Age of Empires by chance? It's more like a spiritual successor to ages of empires, but ten times better. You should really check it out. You should really check it out.I would definitely not agree. Age of Empires is economy based RTS..... Total War is political/warfare based RTT.....quite a big difference between the two. But I would recommend the games to any and all that more enjoy the combative aspects of any RTS... It is especially satisfying seeing your cavalry charge through an enemy line, or your archers down an elephant. Bliss.

minigorbi
What's the best one to get?I'm guessing you haven't played any total war game. Total War: Shogun 2 is the latest and a pretty good game to start with. Definitively one of my favorites.
