Xanodus
I think the cast choice is great. I really liked the actor they picked for my favourite character, Rue. But I think the cast is great, and the movie will be a big success.
† Emotional Outlet
I love the girl they picked for Rue! She is so precious. It's sad that so many people are unhappy with Lenny being Cinna, but I hope he'll do a fantastic job. I don't really put too much effort into imagining what characters look like, so I don't have too much emotion regarding the cast.Although I will say that the vague image I had of Gale was not nearly as attractive as the guy they picked for the movie. I imagined Peeta would have been more attractive, but I think that's largely due to my wanting Katniss and Peeta to be together throughout the series. It kind of makes me sad that so many people are comparing this series to Twilight, as though no one can come up with a young adult series that has a romantic subplot without the Twilight comparisons. I thought the romance aspect of it wasn't so much Katniss wibbling over which megastud she wanted to bone but rather Katniss's distress over lines being blurred.Like with her and Gale--they were friends for a long time and it never really crossed her mind as a serious subject until later. And with Peeta, I can't imagine that pretending to be in love with him so long wouldn't have any effect on her, especially in a situation like the Hunger Games--it's natural to latch onto an ally. Look what happened with her and Rue.
Xanodus
Agreed! To be homest, I loved both Gale and Katniss and Katniss and Peeta together, but it just felt like Peeta's love for Katniss was stronger than Gale's. Yeah, Peeta would've had the upper hand since he revealed to the whole of Capitol he had feelings for Katniss, but Gale has been Katniss' friend for ages! I just can't really decide who should be with Katniss. I love the whole "I-revealed-it-to-the-world-of-Panem" idea, but IO think I would like to have seen Katniss and Gale have a happy ending.A great song, and it is great since it fits into the scene they are playing it in- I think it was Rue's death? Or perhaps not since Katniss needs to sing a song (just has to go by the books!) when Rue is dying. and I hope that they really bring out the sadness and different emotions in the movie. † Emotional Outlet
Thought it was silly to have three entire (tiny!) threads dedicated to the series when it's all just kind of general chat.rebelkid--gah, I know, right? Every book was so heavy and they ended up staying on my mind for ages, too. I'm sorry you had so much of it ruined for you. It's not really a big deal for me, since being told about something is a lot different from actually experiencing it for me. You could explain to me all day all the bad things that happened to them and I wouldn't care, but if I were to go back now and read those books again, I'd be crying for days, haha.A very mild spoiler to follow regarding songs. Depends on what you end up landing on.They have a few fan-made versions of Rue's Lullaby floating around on Youtube. I'm trying to find the one I listened to a while and really liked, haha.Another spoiler in response to Yuri.Yeah, I wasn't sure if Gale was into her because he actually cared or because they had just known each other for so long and it was comfortable. I was a little bummed when I saw things set into motion to push Katniss closer to Peeta because I kind of liked the idea of her ending up with an old friend, but as I read on, Peeta grew on me.A few people have been saying the guys are a little... flat compared to Katniss in terms of characterisation, but I think they're being a bit harsh. =/
great_tairei
The hunger games is much like the battle royale series. Anyway, Katniss is waiting for us.
† Emotional Outlet
I saw the movie Friday night, so I don't remember what I wrote any more, haha.Just to note, I have read all the books, but I did not memorise them, so changes and omissions are not cardinal sins to me. I really enjoyed the movie and think it can stand on its own without the book--it does reach further than Katniss, which, in the books, was limited to her viewpoint only. It seems to me they're trying to show the world beyond her and put more focus on the Capitol and Panem in general, which I think is great. They can't adapt Katniss's inner dialogue completely, but they do have an entire world to work with, which I think is a great use of the medium. The book works--the movie just happens to work as well.I loved Lenny as Cinna. His voice had that "everything sucks but it's going to be okay" tone to it, and I thought he conveyed well enough just how different he was supposed to be from the rest of the Capitol citizens, not only in appearance but in demeanour.
