lemmingllama
mp4 or mov is what you want, its just that the Ipad has a bigger screen so ipod wont look as happy. rpm23
A lot of the MKV stuff you will find there have h264 video and either mp3 or arc audio.I've used some MKVTools to pull the h264 video stream out separately, and the same for the arc audio track, and then re-mux them into a .m4v container so that i could throw them into iTunes, and sync them with my iphone4 or ipad1it was fairly quick since you are not "re-encoding" them (and not degrading the quality), you are just changing the "container" that they are grouped together in, into something that iTunes will take.just use the regular size rips (DVD or 720 Blu-rays) since the screen is big enough. Dazzep
I have an iPad and with the right tool, you can watch anything in 720p as long as it is 720p or higher of course. Download Hand brake, which is free, and you can encode your mkvs in m4v(which is mp4 really) with the h264 codec and you can even add chapter markers, subtitles and dual audio, of course with all of this your file might be just as big as the original, but you won't be disappointed with the quality…
