Diablo
I wanted to buy an Amazon Kindle. I was wondering if I can read manga on it? What do I need to convert it's format, or does manga file format opens directly on it.Also my second question is I've to choose between Kindle and Kindle Touch. Kindle Touch has not yet been released at my place. So, is it worth my extra buck and the wait?Kindle LinkKindle Touch Link
RikuoAmero
What a delightful coincidence. I'm also looking into reading manga on my Kindle. I've heard of a program, Mangle, that does it. Lemme check it out and I'll get back to you.EDIT 1: Go for the Touch, its cheaper. I've got the Keyboard version and I never use it, beyond when looking for a book.EDIT 2: Well, I've checked out that program, here's the linkhttps://github.com/downloads/FooSoft/mangle/mangle_2.3.ziphere's the link for the instructions page, its pretty simplehttp://foosoft.net/projects/mangle/It's pretty straightforward. You open the program, up top, you click on Book, Options, in the dialog box that pops up, you name your book and what device you're using (I selected Kindle 3). You add your files (I had to unzip mine from the .cbz using WinRar) and then Export it. From what I can see...it's not a replacement for a real manga, because the screen is smaller, but it does work. Obviously, it'll be in black and white/grayscale. I tested using Death Note and the first few pages that were in colour were converted to B/W beautifully. My final opinion: Yes, use this BUT I recommend getting something with a bigger screen. It's definitely looking like the Kindle excels at text and is at best mediocre at everything else. † L4ugh
@RikuoDo you happen to know if this program works with the newer Kindle Fire? My mom and sister dropped three of these things in my lap tonight and expect me to, "make them work".Edit: NVM, I went ahead and DLed it to see what it offers and there's no option for Kindle Fire. I think I'll play with Calibre tomorrow and see if any of its formats will work.
Diablo
Thanks for help related to Manga. That answers lot of my questions. I didn't really knew you could install applications on it(Another plus point to buy myself a Kindle). What a delightful coincidence. I'm also looking into reading manga on my Kindle. But I take it that since you've never used the keyboard in your kindle, it won't matter if I buy a Kindle(2011) instead of touch. Do you think I should really wait for some time and go for a Touch version?

IF you want to use Touch, then go for that one, I'm just saying what I'd get.
Malyssa Rahl
I have a Kindle 3 (Aka, Kindle Keyboard) So I can't really comment on all of the features, however, if it were me, I would go for the touch. Yes it is a bit more money.. But it is worth it, and here's why.features --------------------------------------- Kindle-------------------TouchBattery life (wireless off)-------------------- 1 month----------------2 monthsStorage space on device--------------------- 2GB on device for----4gb on device for---------------------------------------------------1,400 books----------3,000 booksBoth also come with the free version of Amazon's online "Cloud Drive" with is an additional 5gb that you can upload and download from freely, if you are in a place that has wifi when you need a new bookThe touch is very slightly heavier than the Kindle, 1.52 ounces difference. Most likely, you wouldn't notice. Also keep in mind that the estimated battery life is based on only a half hour of reading per day, so even with the touch, you may find your battery running out within a week if you read as much as I do. And the battery life estimate is a bit bullshit. I read my Kindle on the way to/from work (about 10-15 min walk) and then for my hourly lunch break, and I drained the battery in about a week (with wireless off). Malyssa Rahl
The space estimate is total, including that taken up by the hidden OS partition and the visible important files. The number of books estimate is still accurate. Depending on the size of the book, you can easily put 2500-3000 books on it.Battery drain from continuous use is higher than that from intermittent use. They also assume an average reading speed, turning the page quickly takes more power than leaving it on the page for an extra few seconds.
