TGS - New Suikoden game announced

The game only has a few details confirmed as it was announced by Konami yesterday. The title of the game is Suikoden: Tsumugareshi Hyakunen no Toki whatever that means when it's at home and is currently confirmed only for... PSP... yeah, that's right, the original PSP. It's not a Vita launch game but a PSP game

Anyway, Konami have launched a teaser trailer here

.

I only ever played the first way back on the PS1 and then nothing until the frankly rubbish Tierkreis that was released 2 or 3 years ago on the DS. Tierkreis kind of did what FFXIII did to that series; ripped the heart out of it to it's most basic form.

The series always has anime-style cutscenes which is nice but it isn't known for it's storytelling. The weirdest thing about this is that it's for the PSP though, which, since the announcement of the PS Vita and, indeed, even before that has been losing popularity outside of Japan.

Still it's another game to think about. Stick any thoughts you have down below...

the fact that it's being released on a dated console worries me about it's chances of being released outside of Japan..good news either way though.

Exactly my thoughts. The PSP has always been big in Japan, partly, and mostly I would say due to Monster Hunter which is huge over there but like I said in the first post is largely pretty dead for support in the West.

The fact that it's on a hand-held has me completely uninterested.

Though I am surprised that Suikoden isn't dead.

Many people thought that Suikoden was dead a long time ago, as Tierkreis did nothing really to stoke the fire. You strike me as an Xbox gamer or PC Gamer, Koby, don't know why...

As far as I know, it is a new project.

The fact that they launched a new, unseen, trailer and a new website would suggest that it is definitely a new project.

Also, while I'm here, the title has been translated to mean "The Woven Web Of A Century" by some and "Centennial Tapestry" by someone else. Considering that "100-years" is in the page of the new url either could be right but Chrome automatically translated the title to "Sundered Hundred Years When Spun" so make your own mind up.

Typically Western names can have very little to do with the literal translation but my guess would be Centennial Tapestry would be more likely as it would be easier to fit the name on the side of a PSP case if the game does make it outside of Japan.

Also, the game has picked up the Genso prefix that many of the games in the series have.

I got a PS2, Wii, PS3, and GBA. My sister left me a 360 but I haven't wanted to take anything yet. I've gotten to where I don't like hand-helds for multiple reasons. One the screen is so tiny and my eyes aren't getting better with age. Second reason is I already spent an arm and a leg on home consoles and it's not like I have the money to buy so many consoles then go and buy all the various hand-helds. Third I rarely go anywhere these days and as a kid the only time I played my hand-held for the most part was when we were going on vacation or I played the Pokemon games. I don't play those games no more, so I have no use for them. Sad thing is most of the games that seem interesting these days are hand-held games. Most console games are crap because they try to experiment on old franchises instead of making new ones and they ruin them in the process. To be cheap they release hand-held games as they are less costly and take less time to make. ><

I have every console under the sun but my PSP hasn't been touched for years whereas my DS gets plenty of action because of all the RPG's that come/came out on it. EDIT: My 3DS on the otherhand has seen little use so far but there is a Tales game coming out later in the year so fingers crossed.

As for the 360, there are some nice RPGs on the Indie side such as Breath Of Death VII and Cthulu saves the world by the same people. I also quite liked the Aphelion games and the two Penny Arcade games but they will be more expensive as they are Arcade not Indie games. Don't really know why I said about PC, that one was fairly obvious...

... I dont know if i should get the suikoden game if/when it comes to the US i was a fan of the previous ones but i'm unsure because thier group broke up as most if not all of you know...

Yeah they're working on some Fallen Kingdoms or something now. Rumour suggests it will work on the same system of Tierkreis which, if true, dashes my interest immediately as it was nowhere near as good as the previous ones.

A thing to remember when dealing with Konami is that they have a habit a rebooting a series even though the team is debunked, a recent example being the Silent Hill games.

Personally, I would be very surprised to see the game released outside of Japan but you never know.
