† L4ugh
I've decided to re-rip all my old CDs and was wanting to find a good lossless codec to use so I won't have to worry about ripping again in the future. I was wondering if any of you use any lossless codecs and which ones you prefer. I use fre:ac for the actually ripping of music but it supports a lot of different codecs. Currently I'm looking at flac and ape. Flac seems to be more popular but ape seems to offer better compression. Does anyone use either of these for archiving music? The test rip I did with the Live - Throwing Copper album gave a file size of 388mb for ape and 399mb for flac. I can't really tell any difference other then the file size. Koby
Never heard of ape but I know a lot of people use flac for lossless audio on HD video files.I just never bothered much with lossless codecs and usually stick to AAC audio because it's usually about 1/10th the size and to me still sounds the same when the bit rate is high.
