Here is what I have so far:

Is this good for a new up-to-date computer?

Ull need a bigger hdd. I've heard things about WD caviar green. pretty sure u can pick up a 2tb for like 80 bucks. I'd read reviews first though.

Well it says primary hard drive above it, and the specs of the board show it having like 8 sata ports. That should be plenty of add on storage for anyone. I use 500gb for my os hard drive as well, and it's plenty big enough for windows or any other os.

I personally would use the 500gb for an os partition and a partition for other important stuff like documents, family photos, or games. Then use a 2tb or more hdd for video and music files. If you are encoding, I would have two or more extra hdds so you aren't asking the hdd to read or write from multiple files at the same. This is only if you have the money for it though. If you're tight on cash and plan to have a large amount of media files on it, then go with s0teric's suggestion.
