NEW YORK (AP) — Nintendo Co. is warning parents of children under six that they should not let them play with the upcoming 3DS, the highly anticipated handheld gaming system that boasts 3-D technology without the need for special glasses.

There is concern that watching 3-D screens could potentially damage kids' eyes.

In a statement, Nintendo of America spokesman Charlie Scibetta said Friday that parents should use the parental controls on the 3DS to restrict access to the system's 3-D mode. The 3DS goes on sale in February in Japan and in March in the U.S. and Europe.

Nintendo has not announced a price for the system in the U.S. In Japan it will cost 25,000 yen ($304).

I have to agree with them, since it would ruin their eyes since they are not fully developed.

Well my little brother is 5 and he hates his ds neva seem him play it. When he got it he played for a little while but after that never picked it up again. But he will sit on the PS3 for hours playing call of duty 4-6-7 alot most mornings before i get up he is on. So i don't see the point of the 3DS. Also i would like to ask any news on the Wii HD? Since it's pretty much useless now with the ps3 n xbox versions.

Yeah I have seen this report. However I have also seen a lot of follow up reports on MSNBC, USA TOday, CCR.com, and so on how eye doctors disagree with Nintendo. Saying that the 3DS is no more of a threat to kids eyes then playing a normal screen. Just like a normal DS kids should be taking breaks every hour to rest their eyes (problem is most people do not do that).

Teddihurrsa is right. Pretty much this is just a way for Nintendo to cover their own butt. For the Big N it would be better to be safe then sorry. Because you know someone out there is going to try and say that the 3DS hurt their kids vision. Now if that happens, Nintendo will just say, "see, i told you so." LOL.

No but really I am looking forward to the 3DS! $250 is a little much for a hand held but this dam thing is coming with a lot of stuff. Free SD card, nice charging dock, AP cards, a few pre installed software titles, and of course 3D. I just cant wait to get my hands on some DOA and Samurai Warriors. Good stuff!

i agree that putting out a warning was the best action to take. also the price is high because the tech is fairly new so cost to build is more expensive when they improve on the tech and the price to make comes down it will be cheeper but it just a question of "can you realy wait that long to get a 3ds?" my personal answer is no i cant.

Thank god i was born earlier :P. I have bought a 3ds and the first few times i played it,it made me feel dizzy but that goes after awhile. Although what was strange was i liked using the AR cards more than the actual game that was included with it.
