RikuoAmero
Hey guys, Now that I have Wireless N network, I feel like being able to stream media files from my hard drive to my 40 inch screen. Heres the situation.I'm running a Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit in my bedroom, connected with a Wireless-N adaptor to the router in the living room. The Xbox is in the living room, connected by ethernet cable to the router. Both can get online fine. What I was wondering is, is there a better program than Windows Media Center for sharing my media? I remember about a year and a half ago, I used PS3 Media Server, to connect wirelessly with my PS3, and it was excellent. I could play mkv's, and even browse inside of iso files. Is there something similar for Xbox 360? In case anyone asks, I sold my PS3, hadn't used it much since Sony got rid of OtherOS (although I will admit to some evil thoughts of buying a new one)If I need to jailbreak my Xbox, well, if anyone knows how, please chime in. If it makes any difference, I'm in Ireland, so using a PAL machine. What I am actually looking for is a way to read all of media files, all the codecs and such (mkv, ogm, avi, etc)Also, my house-mate wants to know if he can do the same with his Mac OS laptop. † L4ugh
An obvious choice would be XBMC, if it was supported, but it seems that the 360 hacks haven't unlocked the 360 fully yet. The Developers don't seem to have any desire to port to the 360 either, even if it does get fully hacked. There are other people working on it, because you can find videos on youtube, from Cygnos, that show XBMC running on 360. Hopefully they will figure this out soon, because I wouldn't mine being able to use it myself. There is some PlayOn.tv software I came across once that promised to do this with all the current consoles, but it's a pay program that doesn't list the codecs it supports. Only thing I have found on their site was a statement that said the supported codecs were limited. Which I'm sure means no support for mkv or any other less popular codec.I think best bet for this is with Cygnos, and that will probably take time. I went ahead and put a link to the video below. It doesn't show much, just the process of loading it. Sorry I couldn't give more help.
