A modern, turn-based JRPG inspired by the retro classics. Light Fairytale is set in a dying underground cyberpunk world ruled by a fierce empire.

 

The game starts with the main character Haru dreaming of vast green plains and a clear blue sky. A scenery he is not supposed to have ever seen, as the world he lives in is deep underground. After confronting with the soldiers who rule this dark society, he will embark on a great adventure discovering the mysteries of the world. Teaming with many allies, including a mysterious, silver haired girl that is key to his quest. The game will span over multiple episodes. A long journey awaits!

 

The characters are represented as 3D chibi models in-game, but they're shown as realistic Anime-style illustrations during the dialogues and animated 2D cutscenes.

The Augmented Reality goggles can be triggered anytime on the field to display NPC and exit locations, as well as battle zones. Used during battles, they will display enemy data which builds up the more you play thanks to it's Deep Learning feature.

 

Featuring fast, turn-based battles that occur directly in the field. The core of the battle mechanics is the customizable Orb system that confer elemental abilities to their wearers. The party characters can be in a special status called Fury, where their abilities are maximal.

Episode 2 resumes the adventure right after last episode's cliffhanger. Play as Haru and Ayaka as they uncover the mysteries of the Deeplands while looking for a way to reunite with Kuroko, meeting with a mysterious silver haired girl along the way.

Episode 02 - Early Access Patch #1: Battle Balancing

 

Early Access version 2021-06-01 Change Log:

  • Most enemies now have less HP, and do less damage.
  • Kid is slightly stronger (STR) - can do more weapon damage now.
  • Corrections on the French script thanks to @chtichoko.
  • Each playable character have their own weapons and armors - now better indicated in shops.
  • New option on the Title Screen > Options: Savepoints Sound. When unchecked the ringing sound of close-by savepoints will be disabled, as requested in the discussions.
  • Removed the "Shorter Battle Animations" option. This only affected summons. The new behavior is full summons animation the first time, and then the short version after that.
  • And a few more minor improvements / fixes.
 
neko.works also stated that they're planning to add a Hard Mode option - with the original balancing. It will be purely optional for those wanting a bit of challenge - no differences in achievements or events. So expect that in a later update.

Early Access Patch #2: Hard Mode

Early Access version 2021-06-06 Change Log

- New option: Hard Mode - that you can toggle anytime on the title menu - featuring a challenging battle difficulty similar to the initial release.
- Fixed the shops UI getting stuck when exiting - as reported in the discussions.
- A few more bugs fixed.

Early Access Patch #3: A few improvements

Early Access version 2021-06-17 Change Log


- Fast Forward can now be toggled by pressing once R3 / T. You can also still activate it as before by keep pressing L3 / F.
- The "Steal" skill now better indicate if it succeeded or failed.
- Fixed the pause menu window getting stuck on the screen - as reported on the discussions.
- And a few more fixes / improvements.

Episode 01: Full Release Patch #7 - 2nd Anniversary Update!

Full Release version 2021-07-09 changelog:

- The game now defaults to Easy Mode.
- for players that want to focus on the exploration and story. You can switch back anytime to Hard Mode in the options on the title menu - for more challenging battles.
- During battles the turns view now display thetiming of your next move.
- Haru now have a new personal skill: Protect. If it succeeds, the enemies will target him instead of Kuroko while having the effect of Guard on Haru.
- You can now zoom out in the field, and control the camera while selecting a command in battle.
- Fast forward time anywhere with L3 / F (press) and R3 / T (toggle).
- Switch the display language by pressing SELECT / L.
- Savepoints now have a sound effect when close by - that you can disable in the options.
- Improved stereoscopic 3D mode: Activate it in the options on the title menu, then go ingame and press F6-F7 to change the convergence and F8-F9 for the separation.

And many more improvements and fixes!

Most of these changes comes from Episode 2 - now playable on Early Access!

 

Episode 02: Early Access Patch #4 - Better balancing for Ayaka!

Early Access version 2021-07-11 changelog


- Ayaka's healing skills (Pray / Flowerbed) are now 20% less effective - they were too powerful and felt a bit like cheating as they don't consume MP. Thanks @thatdiesel!
- Fixed a possible crash on the Executioner battle. Thanks @Dalia!
- Added 2 pages to the instruction manual (title menu > Extras) listing all of the gamepad and keyboard controls.
- Improved stereoscopic 3D mode: Activate it in the options on the title menu, then go in-game and press F6-F7 to change the convergence and F8-F9 for the separation.

- Kid's steal skill now better indicate if it failed and why.
- Added a few missing events to the completion lists. Thanks @Luward!
- Better performance in the Snow Forest. If you still have a low framerate, please set the Level of Details graphics option to low.
- The savepoints sound is now off by default - set it as you like it in the options.
