awdity
who do you guys like to blame? I recently watched some Penguindrum episodes holy cr*p on a stick. The art's good, the seiyū do a good job AFAICT but OMG the English. the whiny performance that gets the most screen time is bad but it takes the whole cast, each contributing something to make this feel like a cheese grater on the ears Can't listen to the English any more at all. If I finish watching it'll be the Japanese track. I know I've heard these English voice actors before without this reaction so the individual actors can be good. So whose fault is it, director? casting director? producer? HOrror of horrors, if this same crew tries to dub Arakawa Under the Bridge, or god forbid, Bakemonogatari if that happens I might as well crush my ears in a vise. lemmingllama
It is true that some dubs are terrible, point and case most aniplex dubs or all the 4Kids work. It mainly depends on the company though, some have better dubs than subs. When it comes down to it, I normally go for dubs when it is an action series, and subs when its anything else. As for who is at fault, I would blame the companies for hiring people who may have talent, but certainly not for the roles they are cast in. Still, as long as you stick with the good companies that dub anime, like Geneon and Funimation, then you should be able to enjoy the experience.
