If this proves erroneous, any and all profile changes are supposed to be accomplished via the User CP. You can reach it by clicking your username up at the top of the forum and then going to My Settings. You can also go directly to your profile and select Edit my Profile in the upper right hand corner. It's a single toggle for a lot of options (basically anything to do with the profile).
