So long story short, The Secret World, an MMO, is gonna copy Guild Wars 2's model of pay once and play the game forever. And just in time, too, my GW2 Norn Necromancer is finally level 80. So I'll be picking this up as my new MMO addiction. So, what are your thoughts peeps?

I thought this MMO looked interesting, but I'm short on money and my Laptop isn't a gaming monster so I have to pass on alot of opportunities that come along the way.

Though I will argue a lot of these MMOs that adopt a subscription status; are generally the most current, "fresh" if you will. I've been playing Ragnarok since dial-up and when I jump into something like Guild Wars or Final Fantasy, I'd have to argue that they are going in a direction that I'd expect, which is good for the overall industry in my opinion as well as for the consumer. Sure, people are weary to do a monthly subscription but when you compare a $5-12 monthly subscription to other things like your $50 Phone Bill, or $100 Basic Package Cable/Sattelite TV/Internet Bill, or your $120 Monthly Car Insurance Quota; is $5 really worth arguing over? Ooh, you can't go out and buy one sandwich from your favorite fast food joint; tsch.

If anything, I would argue about the monotony from games that are purely mimicing other games. Look at Perfect World; now look at World of Warcraft. What's the difference? One is purely fantasy themed, the other is the same; but asian/eastern themed on top of it. And on top of all the private servers for big name games, does anyone even play an MMO to engage themselves in a thrilling story/experience? Doubtful. I remember when doing quests meant something exciting and challenging. Not these days, MMOs are all about PVP/Best Equipment/Best Character Builds/Etc.

What's this? You don't have the time to sit at your computer and look for parties to level up and hunt together with people? Here's a legal bot macro that you can use from your client that you downloaded, just move your mouse every so often to refresh your screensaver while the game plays itself for you.

I wish I was older back when the first couple of MMOs hit the internet. I would've enjoyed and appreciated them more than people do now.

I for one played GW2 for its story. Which reminds me, I technically haven't finished it yet, still got the last dungeon to do... I also actually read the flavour text for quests in World of Warcraft, back when I played that.

Now, I've played a bit of Secret World and so far, my reaction to it has been favourable. I'm not that far into it. There's three factions, I've so far created characters for two of them, haven't yet checked out the third (Illuminati are the behind the scenes manipulators, Templars are supposed to be freedom fighters, having swapped shirts from the Ass Creed series and I dunno what the Dragon are supposed to be for). There isn't a level cap, but you still gain experience points. When you "level up" you spend the points you earn in various abilities. Since there's no cap, you're theoretically able to max out all abilities if you play long enough. Dialog is all voiced, you look at an NPC and click on topics for them to talk about. What I don't like about the dialog is the fact your character is silent. Kinda ruins the immersion for me, especially since games like Guild Wars 2 and Star Wars The Old Republic have fully voiced player characters.

You can unlock abilities and passives by buying them with points every time you level up, then you've got to equip which ones you're going to use (just like GW2).
