J-Lord
Hey guys,I was wondering is it possible to get the Audio that plays off the TV to play off my laptop instead? Why do I wish to do this? Its very simple, I wish to rip some audio from games I have, my laptop isn't kitted out in a way that I can play game through it so I thought maybe just playing audio through it would be easier? I have no clue if it can be done or if my laptop will be able to perform such a task. I have looked it up on the internet and only found guides on putting your laptop onto your tv, nothing really reverse in the form of Audio. So do any of you know if this can be done? Dude888
Does your TV has an headphones port? And how is your console connected to your TV? is it hdmi or composite? The later would be better (depending on the first answer). Is there a microphone port(probably) or any other "audio in" port?
Dae314
Most TV's have several different output ports since TV manufacturers assume that at least some of their customers want to hook up their own sound systems. The problem would be getting that output to go into your laptop's line-in connection (usually a mic port). You're probably going to want a 3.5mm audio male-male cable for that since that's what I think most mic ports are.Once you have that done, if you're using windows, in the sound settings there's a way to make it so that the noise being picked up from the mic port is output by the speakers. I find mine (using Windows 7) by right clicking on the speaker icon in the bottom right tray, and going to recording devices. Once there, you can right click on your mic (or whatever you have plugged into the mic port) and choose properties. In the popup window, there's a tab for listen. In that tab you can check a box to make the speakers output whatever sound the mic port is picking up. Edited November 21, 2012 by Dae314

And is the thrid question refering to my laptop? If so my laptop has a microphone port. Most TV's have several different output ports since TV manufacturers assume that at least some of their customers want to hook up their own sound systems. If I can at least get the audio playing through my laptop I am more than confident that I can get it to be picked up by something.Cheers guys, going shopping tonight so I will see what I can get. Dude888
Since you have a headphone port, you don't need to switch from hdmi. All you need is a cable that goes from the headphone port to your laptop's microphone input. I think it's 1/8 in or 3.5 mm like Dae314 said and the correct software to record the audio. Of course, you can use the "sound recorder" from the accessories menu on windows, but there are other ones available (and free) on the internet. It allows me to record from microphone and even whats happening on my laptop (Stereo-mix). I shall test it tomorrow as it is late now, but if all goes well consider this thread answered!! Not to say it's gonna work but I feel like it will so I would like to thankyou for your efforts in helping me.------edit------Got it to work!
