It's the same in German. The ones' place (don't know if thats the proper expression, but think you know what I mean) is said before the tens' place.

So 123 in German is "Einhundertdreiundzwanzig".

So, answering your question, about 80 million other Germans and I do it that way. The reason... I have no clue xD.
