RikuoAmero
Hey guys,I'm looking to get an Intel Core i7 2600K. Well, I was browsing Ebay for shits and giggles, and saw that someone was selling an overclocked version, one running at 5+GHz for about €300. I checked them out, and it seems they're a legit business - they get these CPUs in, overclock them, then sell them on. They say they include a few instructions in the BIOS for actually getting the speed - its not as simple as me putting in the CPU, I have to tweak a few settings first. What I want to know is, is it worth it for me to pay the extra to get this overclocked one? I don't plan on overclocking myself - I've never done it before, and since I'm not using liquid cooling, I'm not going to have the best low temperatures. Would it be the case that if I purchase a brand new 2600K that its the exact same instructions I'd get, so that if I purchased the overclocked version, I would literally be wasting the extra money? Here's a link to themhttp://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/e11051.m43.l1123/7?euid=296f6b76e88d45fd8ea47abb397beb23&loc=http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem%26item%3D300622468904%26ssPageName%3DADME:X:RTQ:US:1123If the link doesn't work for whatever reason, just search for Skulltrail 5GHz. † TheChaosLegion
I wouldn't do it. From what I can tell you basically pay 100 extra dollars for instructions on how to overclock. You can find shit like that for free.http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115070That is the exact same processor. Brand Intel Series Core i7 2600KModel BX80623I72600KI could be missing something, but that feels like a scam aimed at people who have no understanding of these things. When in doubt, put a bullet in it's head, as they say.I also don't like how they use the word Extreme on this listing either. This could mislead people into thinking they are getting one of the intel extreme processors, which usually retail at or above $1000.
RikuoAmero
Thanks, Legion, I'll pass on these guys and just get a stock 2600K. I wouldn't actually need a 5GHz processor anyway...just would be nice to have....

Finding instructions on how to do so should be pretty easy. It just boils down to adjusting the settings in your bios. Why pay $100 extra when you can get it for free! ZeroPenguins
What TheChaosLegion is correct, don't fall for those idiots. Overclocking is child play if you got a good motherboard and heatsink.
