midnightwhisker
New to the forum (shocker, I know!). Found my way here after many attempts in vain to find a source for subbed Elfen Lied (my original got eaten by a hard drive meltdown). I enjoyed the feel of the community and decided to sign on up!I'm 33, living in the frozen north of Ontario, Canada. Deciding on a top 5 for anime is a bit rough- seems to change periodically with my mood, but likely targets would be Darker than Black (S01), Deathnote, the Hellsing OVA, Elfen Lied, and either Full Metal Alchemist or Gunslinger Girl. Always attempting to expand my horizons though.I definitely enjoy gaming of all sorts- we have a revolving crew of 5-10 people who do pen and paper gaming weekly (D&D, Black Crusade/Deathwatch, L5R, Cadwallon... the list goes on), but I also positively cannot wait for Diablo 3 to arrive. Otherwise, I likely am sitting around with my nose in a book or hiking around some remote area. Suppose that's about it.... can't wait to meet and converse with all you lovely people! Exiku
Greetings - I'm new too, so I feel weird welcoming you seeing as I'm still working my way around haha! Oh, don't pay any attention to my Join Date - it's a lie!Let's ask something different...what kind of books catch your fancy?
midnightwhisker
Hello Exiku :3!Books, another one that's hard to narrow down. Mostly fantasy.... I love anything by Stephen Brust, Tad Williams, Terry Brooks, James Clemens, David Eddings, Guy Gavriel Kay...Any Stephen King pre-Desperation (proud to say I own them all aside from Thinner). After that point, they're hit or miss for me but never reach the awesomeness of his early works.Though I'll read almost anything. Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett, and Watership Down by Richard Adams are the two that pop to mind first out of the fantasy/sci-fi genre. How about you? (or anyone else who wants to join in!) Exiku
Hey! I apologise for the late reply - it's a bad habit...not a sign that I'm not bothered, but rather the world calls to me...That's an interesting selection of authors - I'm embarrassed to say that I only recognise 5 names, and of those only 3 because I used to work in a bookshop and shelved their work and haven't read them. Watership Down is one of my favourites and I've read a few Stephen King books (The Shining; Misery; Dreamcatcher and one more I can't remember) I love Terry Brooks' Shannara series, though I've only read the first three (Sword; Elfstones and Wishsong)I really like Fantasy books and the odd Horror/Mystery, though I'm trying to broaden my horizons and pick up a few slightly different ones i.e. women's romance/drama novels. So far I've read Dorothy Koomson (I quite like her writing) and Annie Sanders' Busy Woman Seeks Wife (not what you think it's about ) I'm kind of tackling Lionel Shriver's The Post-Birthday World...I have to say, the woman has interesting ideas (though this is taken from Sliding Doors) but she does go on a bit...too much waffling.Ah and a colleague has me reading Naomi Noviks Temeraire right now...my opinion's a little mixed on this one. I like aspects of it and there are golden moments, but I just don't like the way she writes...I can't quite describe the feeling I get.A series I've followed quite faithfully (more out of stubborness since I lost interest long ago) is Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth series. I liked it a lot in the beginning, but then...it kind of took a turn and I realised he spends about 1/4 to 1/3 of the book recapping what's happened already :/Sorry, long post!
