Computer/Laptop Temps

So I've taken a strong interest in the safety, or well like "well-being" of my laptop and I was wondering what the best ways to keep the temperature down are.

I used CoreTemp to gauge the temperature and I feel like (112 F) is pretty high (well if I compared it to like the human body, imho that's pretty hot), but I read from a few places 110-115 F is the usual temp for a laptop that isn't running high-performance for stuff like i.e. video editting/gaming/etc. I was just wondering if there are ways to, you know - lower the temperature on the go?

Does environment increase/decrease temp? Obviously using a laptop inside a boiler room where it's like 120+ F is a bad idea right? The laptop would be taking in hot air and blowing out even hotter air I would imagine.

I'm not sure what kind of temperatures I should be worried about for desktops and laptops. I know Desktops usually run cooler thanks to all the necessary ventilation on the sides of certain cases and the ability to add more fans here and there inside the case but laptops usually are stuck the way they are.

Discuss?

Edit:

I generally keep my laptop on a cooling pad (ones with a fan, and they're powered via usb connection from my laptop). That's one of the best ways. I hear underclocking or undervolting may also be good ways to decrease temp as a result of using less power/electricity but I don't know if I should dabble in that just yet since I have a 1-year warranty on my laptop from the manufacturer.

I wouldn't worry too much about your laptop.. You've got it on a cooling pad which is a good idea. But most modern laptops simply shut off when they hit a certain temperature. My Netbook has gone up to around 160 something with out shutting off. One of my co-workers has a laptop that won't run without a Cooling pad. I don't know what temp it hits but after a couple minutes it just shuts off...

On another note, I've never heard of a desktop computer running hot. My old desktop never went over 110. And I don't know of anyone that has had any issues that were temp related on a desktop machine...

Edit:

My Netbook is currently running at 136 F. Without a cooling pad and it's rather normal for it. I'd be more worried about keeping the vents clean and that the fan doesn't have alot of dust buildup...

Y'uuuh I'll post my specs later when I get home but overall my highest temp (According to CoreTemp) hit like 140 the other day lol. And yeah, I guess that is a smart thing too biggman, I know every time I open up my desktop - dust is the problem of overheating. Haha, I know laptops aren't really made for gaming so they're not really supposed to hit high temperatures but my definition of high temp is probably way different from someone elses.
