help with neo geo emulation

I get almost all my roms from EmuAsylum. They have NeoRAGEx in their emulator section and a list of Neo Geo roms in their roms section. I doubt it will be the most up to date version though.

Only problem is they have a daily download limit of 2000mb.

Why is it that you don't want to use mame for Neo Geo emulation? It's worked fine for me so far, at least on the non-processor heavy ones. Just wondering if there's an important reason for me to switch.

I doubt that MAME will run well on my netbook. My friends Pc which is a little more dated than mine runs a neo geo emu almost flawlessly... but his older brother put it on there before he moved, so he can't help me much I think he runs kawaks. I am pretty sure that neoragex is the best for low-end machines.

I guess I focus more on playing the game than looking for errors, but mame seems to run fine on my netbook. I have an Asus eeepc 1000HE, and I have been using an XP partition on it as a portable game station for a couple years now. I use MameWah as the frontend so I don't have to open all my emulators individually. It works great with a couple of XBox 360/PC controllers.

There's really only a handful of NeoGeo games that I'm really interested in, and I don't think any of those require a very powerful pc to run. I think the only ones I play on a regular basis are Metal Slug [#] and Samurai Showdown V Special.

Does NeoRAGEx support all the NeoGeo games that Mame does? EmuAsylum didn't have all the ones I mentioned above but I doubt their list is complete.

MameWah is a multiple emulator frontend. It basically gives you one simple interface to control all your emulators with only a few button clicks. It's real purpose is for use in a home-made arcade cabinet.

I really haven't messed much with it since I got my netbook but pretty much all the arcade games I played as a kid, I can play on my netbook. Other than the ones mentioned before I play a lot of Knights of the Round, Golden Axe, X-Men, Armored Warriors, Aliens vs Predators, and pretty much any jet shooter game I find interesting. There are a few more but I can't think of them at the moment and the drive all that is installed on isn't currently in my netbook.

If you want I could try to help you get MameWah up and running on your netbook. I can't promise that I'll be of much help, because the version I use is v161 and some where around v163 the way the ini files are used changed. The other problem is the last time I checked it didn't support any Windows higher than XP. I've been thinking about just trying to see if running them with XBMC would be easier but once you have mamewah up and running it's a nice little program.

Yes I would appreciate that ! I have Xp btw. getting some Mame roms playing on this would be sooooo cool, and using Mamewah as a frontend would be sweet ! I'm gonna try getting Mamewah going now ! Is there anyplace where I can find just the older arcade games that would run well on my machine, maybe a romset so I can get'em in one go?

----edit----- OHHHHHHH yeah I'm gonna need big help !

With MameWah you need to make sure you also download the system files that it needs. They should be on the same download page as mamewah itself, you'll need direct x installed as well.

I'll swap HDDs tonight and try to put a zip file together with my version of MameWah, the emulators, and roms I have installed on it at the moment. All you'll need to do then is just change the ini files and install the required system files they need.

If you make a special account for it you can add the MameWah.exe to windows startup folder and it will load up as soon as you sign in to that account.

I'll start downloading all the new versions too so I can see if I can figure them out. I saw something on the site last night that said it helped with making ini files so hopefully that will simplify the process. I'll then upload whatever I've got so far to MU or FS and we can start figuring out the rest from there.
