Xanodus
When I go to save a file, I go to the top left hand corner where it says 'file'. Then I click 'file' and go down and choose the option 'save as'. So now I am in the 'save as' box. I choose where I want to save it, and I name it and choose the file type I want to save it as. I choos GIF. I press the save button. Now, as it was saved on my desktop, the file icon has the GIMp cat icon or whatever. I double click it, and it opens in GIMP, not as a GIF file in my default photo viewer. Anyone know what is going on?
† ballard
Is it an animated GIF? If it's just a normal picture have you tried saving it in any other format? When I open GIF files on my computer it opens up in a web browser... you could try that. Is the file extension xcf or gif?Edit: I feel this thread would be better suited in the tech center. *Thread moved*
Xanodus
It is a normal picture, with added text and a render and background if that helps. Also, when I save it as GIF, it has no file extention name.

Xanodus
They all save as .xcf, even as jpg and png. This is getting strange...
† ballard
Have you tried reinstalling gimp? I've had a few issues with gimp before and reinstalling it always fixed the problem.
