Personally I'm not a fan of macs. I like the OS but I think the hardware is overpriced and they're not really supported by a lot of the software companies. I think they're geared more towards being a "Professionals" computer. Most of the major software that seems to be supported by the Mac OS is top of the line software for graphics, video, web design, etc. I think steam has been ported to the mac now, so the software issue should be getting better. However, I don't know about the price issue because it's been awhile since I've bothered comparing the price of a mac vs the price of a pc with similar hardware.

My recommendation would be to think about all the things you will want to do with the new computer, and then make sure that the Mac OS is able to do it. Then I would find a mac you like and compare the price to a similar powered pc to see if the price is reasonable for you.

You can also run windows on macs now, but you will have to buy the copy of windows first. If the price of the macs haven't dropped then you are basically ripping yourself off, because you could of had a windows pc that was either cheaper or more powerful for the same amount of money.
