Blue (Da ba dee) Eiffel 65 Lyrics confusion

I heard 'Blue' by Eiffel 65 when I was young which was before I knew what lyrics were.

At first I thought the lyrics went, 'I'm blue I believe I would die' because I thought the song was talking about depressment. Like how blue is how you describe someon who is down.

My friend first thought the lyrics went, 'I'm blue that was me I'm a guy' and i do not know how he got that besides them sounding similar.

When I grew older and my hearing became sharper, I found out that it was just, 'da ba dee da ba die' which I was somewhat shocked at.

I was wondering if anyone else had a similar mix up when they first heard it?
