romeoblaze
This is one of the most brilliant historical novels ever written and you can tell that it is a labor of love. Yourcenar Hadrian chose a great leader because he said that pre-dated Christianity, whose mindset is so alien to our own and have spent decades researching and seemingly was struggling to express their insights. With him, you survey the Roman Empire in many aspects, from the excesses of his newly rich Jews bloody rebellion that led to the destruction of the temple of Jerusalem. I read in French and flawless prose, clear, and found evocative. Read it before visiting Rome!
